CPU-Z program only showing core speed as 1.6 mhz.

[link to this post]

I have a core 2 duo E6400 @2.13GHZ with 2gb ram.

The above program shows 1.6mhz core speed,multiplyer x 6.

I have done a search on google which a poster had the same problem, and was advised to go into the bios and replace x6 to x8, has anyone any knowledge of this.

My pc does seem to run a touch slower at present.

That is quite possibly correct as that is what it reduces to when not under load.
Check again when running prime 95

Thanks for reply.

I have not heard of prime95 before ,i have just kept CPU-Z open while i did a virus scan,and it jumped between 2.13mhz x 8 and 1.6mhz x 6,but did the majority at 1.6mhz i would say.

When the scan stopped it went back to 1.6mhz,as you say when idle that may be the right setting.I will check the prim95 program out.

intel speedstep, downclocks to reduce power and heat when idle, a decent bios should allow you to toggle the setting or you can goto control panel in windows and power options, change to home/office desk for it to keep full clock, minimal power management to enable the downclocking again.

Thanks.

I have looked in the bios and intel speedstep is set to auto, and at that setting does as you say,i think there is a option to change it.I will also look at your other option and see how it goes.
