Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless Pre-N Router???

[link to this post]

Hi, I was thinking of getting a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless Pre-N Router for my house. I mainly use u-torrent and online browsing, i also have the ipod touch to use with it.

i have yet to buy a laptop and wondered that if i buy this i will have to buy a Pre-N adaptor aswell in future.

or will it work regardless, i was also watching a Netgear DG834N on ebay...again will i need extra hardware?.

cheers

I am sure that Pre-N stuff is backward compatable in both directions.

You just have to have Pre-N at both ends to get the benifits it offers.

Just a tad sad..a wee bit old...

Hi

It will be backwards compatible.

If you are looking at the N1 Vision range, I would avoid that as it is lacking any ADSL statistics that can make troubleshooting and support a bit of a nightmare.

Another option is the D-Link 2740B http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=4158, this contains the exact same internals as the Belkin N1 F5D8631uk4A (you can actually run the Belkin firmware on the D-Link they are that alike) but it's a lot cheaper and has newer firmware available.

the D-Link 2740B gets battered on the reviews though.

i want something reliable and will last at least 3 years...and good wireless connection.

Hi

The 2740B comes with an 11 year guarantee, which is pretty good as when used 24/7 consumer routers are lucky to last 12 months before starting to give problems.

Just trying to save you a few quid as the hardware on the Belkin and D-Link are identical.
