Wireless pre-N and N conpatability

Hi, I was thinking of getting a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless Pre-N Router for my house. I mainly use u-torrent and online browsing, i also have the ipod touch to use with it.

i have yet to buy a laptop and wondered that if i buy this i will have to buy a Pre-N adaptor aswell in future.

or will it work regardless, i was also watching a Netgear DG834N on ebay...again will i need extra hardware?.

I have a Netgear DG834n and it works just as good with my g cards such as the laptops, PS3 and Wii as it does with the n cards in the desktops (although obviously the n cards are much, much faster)
