Numpty Intertex content - what router or WAP?

[link to this post]

Hi

I am using an old Intertex IX66 'modem' which used to run hardwired into a switch then to my network but for the last 2 years has run to a Netgear 'Rangemax' wireless access point

The WAP has just died
Im a bit miffed it has only lasted 2 years but hey - I'll never buy Netgear again so lesson learned

Im not that techy
I came by the IX66 as an early adopter to ADSL
Im very happy with it and it feels like a 'real' piece of kit

It also has a hardware firewall and is a bit leftfield, in conjunction with using a Mac I feel minimally happier that these features give me some protection from the web's lions, tigers and bears oh my

Im happy to take advice on how best to get my wireless working again

Is it best to bin the IX66 and buy a Mimo N router?
If so where can I look for impartial reviews?
As my Netgear WAP only lasted 2 years they can get stuffed...............

Im curious about the Mac airports
The baby one looks ideal but my house has thick walls and it looks like it has to be mounted at an electrical socket
The deceased Netgear could be hung up so as to give a better theoretical spread of RF, I have reservations that something plugged in at ground level wont beam as far
Having said that my old WAP was G comliant but the Airport and my Macbook run N

Comments welcome

Cheers

Hi, this 3Com 3CRWE454G75 access point is a neat job and has 100 metres (328 feet) range and 3 year warranty.

Its about the same size as the older iPod chargers if you've seen those. It works extremely well in my flat, coverage is much more than I was expecting.

Apple sell a cable kit for connecting to HiFi etc (for the airtunes feature) and that kit includes a mains cable, so I put my unit flat on the desk. Works well.
