netgear DG834v2 - Vista

[link to this post]

Hi

Im using the netgear DG834v2 Wired router on Xp (ISP - Zen) at the moment but am about to purchase a new computer with Vista.

As the box does not mention Vista, does anyone know if this router will work with Vista as I am finding contradictory information on the net - and whether I need to download any drivers/software etc to get it working?

I cant remember how I installed in on XP as Zen talked me through it on their tech helpline. I have a resource CD but dont seem to have any other cds

Your router should be operating system independent. The only problem is that some come with so called setup wizards written for a particular operating system, but you don't need to use such wizards. Your Netgear is easy to set up via its web interface which should work just as well under Linux, Mac O/S, XP, and Vista.

Early betas of Vista (RC1) had a problem with the ethernet driver with some motherboards which prevented the router's web interface loading properly but it's a problem that has long since been fixed in Vista.

If the router is set up and working ok in XP, you shouldn't have anything to do.

John.

I use a DG834v2 with both Vista and XP machines, no problems at all.
