6-2-T-2 (6.2.29.2) is it I think. I seem to have lost the actual download, maybe it's on my other machine.

6.1.4.3 is quite old now - that was the last one that had tweakable noise margin.

6.2.29.2 is really old as well. I am on 7.4.3.2. Problem is that for some reason Thomson have stopped releasing firmware updates to the public. I managed to get my copy from a German bulletin board. I will try and find the link

I think 6.2.29.2 is the latest UK release.

But I think the difference is something simple, like defaulting VPI/VCI to 0/38.

Yes 6.2.29.2 is the last UK update. I found that it isn't very good when you stress your line. I live a couple of hundred yards from my exchange with good attenuation and SNRM. I asked for the 6DB profile and was syncing at c 22mbps, but was getting 20,000 CRC errors in 5 or 6 hours. The 7.4.3.2 was better, held noise margin well and errors were 2,500 per day or so. Problem was that noise margin would fluctuate and line would periodically drop , typically lasting a few hours. Moved up to 8.2.2.5 and now getting less then 2000 CRC errors in a 24 hour period. Noise margin is more stable again and line hasn't dropped in a day and half.

I might have a look at that. I ditched mine for use on O2 as it lost sync as soon as SNRM fell below 3dB, but my Netgear has other disadvantages.

I've got the upgrade wizard. Where is 8.2.2.5 please?

German (deutch) 8.2.1.5 firmware >>> link

See post & link by humm re 8.2.2.5 firmware link suggests it's for the 585v7 /n, who knows???

I haven't used any of the above firmware yet as I'm trying out a Netgear DG834GT router at the moment.

I can confirm that I used the 8.2.2.5 found midway down that page - the one that says its for the 585v6. It seems to be working fine. Possibly because I did an upgrade it retained the PPPOA template - or else the 585v6 version does have it. No idea - anyway seems to be working ok.

If you do use it please note you try this at your own risk.

Reading that thread there appear to also be problem with the wireless. I haven't tested that part yet. It has kept my link up for almost three days when 7.4.3.2 was dropping it every few hours (say 2 to 3 times a day)

Cheers

Ive been using this version for a few weeks now with no problems, uptime of over 7 days before a resync I instigated.

However I have noticed a couple of crashes, that I cant explain, I think it may have been a P2P session that got a little out of hand and a PS3 streaming video.

Currently waiting migration to WBC so will see how it copes with ADSL2.

I've been using this firmware (8.2.2.5) for about 9 months with a TG 585 v.7 with no problems whatsoever. Occassional drop -with immediate reconnection- has been seen; no apparent reason and always overnight.

Current 'uptime' 31 days 15 hours 12 minutes - roughly tongue grin

Mine seems to last a couple of days then a drop. Seems to be working ok but I am getting over 4000 CRC errors per day and about 2300 HEC errors and about 200 errored seconds. Speeds and stability seem fine though so tempted to simply ignore them. I am on a 24mb 6db noise margin profile with Talktalk on ADSL2+. I could ask for my profile to be changed to 9db but not sure that I want to!

When I was using the official 6.2.29.2 version on this profile I was getting 38000 CRC errors in a day! so this is definately better.

What do you all think?

fyi this problem occurs with W7 too but fix is the same. Also ignore error at end of process that says can't reboot, just cancel the wizard, the software has in fact updated correctly.

I have the Speedtouch router through BE broadband. I have moved house and they upgraded my router and let me keep the old one.

My wireless to my desktop is a little week so wanted to use the old router as a wireless extender. I googled it and it seemed to do it, but when I tried to set it up I was missing the option. It seems that BE had disabled that feature.

A friend said I should be able to flash the firmware and have the box as it would be wthout any BE profile.

I am OK following instructions and have a basic understanding of it all.

Which firmware should I down load? (should I use one of the links in the thread)

Any guide or instructions on how to do this?

Thanks
Tom

If you over-write the Be firmware in the one connecting to the net you almost certainly will not be able to connect. So whatever you do, don't do that.

Did you change the default IP address of the old one?

I don't want to mess with the "live" one, I want to take the old router (so would disconnect the computer from the live one and work only on the old one)

I have not done anything to the old one yet. I am after instructions/guide/info on what I would need to be doing for this little project.

Thanks
Tom
