Homeplugs dropping network

[link to this post]

I purchased 3 homeplug piggy`s recently , I had one that dropped the network at my pc so I sent it back and got a replacement now the replacement is doing the same thing.

After been on for most of the day I came to the PC to discover that the network light on the homeplug was off and will not go through the simple connect process, the power light refuses to blink to detect the network. This is exactly the same fault as the previous unit. Can you advise as to why it might be doing this?

Ive included a video of me trying to do the simple connect process and it failing to respond to the button press
http://rapidshare.com/files/232198094/1 3.avi.html

Ive also done a factory restore on the unit with zero effect

Please help. I really like the speed I achive with these plugs so I want them to work!

Cheers

It may simply be faulty. Have you tried one of your other units at that location?

Some of the home plugs attempt to detect that the network connection is no longer there and if it thinks this is so, it powers down. The only way to get the link running is to 'reboot' the pc or some other magic sequence you find..

All is not lost... What you can do is to adjust the network adapter in the PC so not to enter its power save: Start/Control Panel/Network Connections/<Right Click> Properties of the LAN adapter/<Configure>/PowerManagement/ then untick the "Allow the PC to turn off this device to save power"/ Press <OK> etc...

I sent back a faulty PVR and its faulty replacement, so it does happen.

I've seen some laptops not re-enable their network interface after coming out of hibernate - is this linked, i.e. is the link dropped if the PC remains on all the time?

Disable/Enable of the network interface on the PC generally wakes them up

Especially if they come from the same batch.

Indeed. I know a chap who had 5 shower curtains replaced before the shop accepted there was a faulty batch and it was not normal for water to drip through!

As others have suggested, I would send back as a fault. This should not happen. The only other thing you could do is update the firmware of the unit to the latest release and check again.... If still happening then send back as these will never work correctly..
