Siemens Speedstream 4100 - Wont synchronise DSL

Hi all,

I've been doing up my house for the past few months so only just got around to getting broadband sorted. Signed up with Tiscali for phone/broadband and the sent the Seimens Speedstream 4100 Ethernet ADSL Modem.

For some reason I cant get it to synchronise with ADSL, it just keeps training with the DSL light flashing then going off. I've logged into the admin and checked the logs - nothing useful, only that it keeps initialising and failing to synchronise.

For testing purposes I plugged in my Belkin router/modem (I'll eventually give the Speedstream to my mother) that I know works. This sychronised no problem. So I know the line is good.

I've tried a reset on the Seimens, but no joy. As far as I knew, the ADSL sync is independant to any setting on the router, so I'm not sure if there is a setting that needs changing or if the thing is just defective?

also I tested the Speedstream at my mother's, who's broadband (talktalk) is just fine. It failed to sync DSl there also.

Why not get get your ISP to send you a replacement router since I assume it's still under warranty?

what speed does the Belkin sync at ?

There may be a setting for ADSL standard to use - G.dmt, Auto / Multimode, G992.5 etc.

Also are you taking the RJ11 plug out of the Belkin and plugging into the Siemens, so that you know the wiring/filtering is the same.

It isn't unheard of for one router to fail to sync where another works.
