O2 wireless box IV - can it be used on Talk Talk broadband?

I've bought an O2 wireless box IV for myself (I am on O2), and now my friend wants one, but he is on Talk Talk.

Can they be configured to work with Talk Talk, either by loading the OEM firmware onto it, or by issuing commands through a telnet session with the box?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You would need to unlock it, which is not an easy process.

Why not just go for this it's essentially the same router but not configured to an O2/BE specific connection.

which wouldn't require trying to solder connections onto the eprom chip??

Plus don't O2 own the boxes, even if you buy an upgrade for £10, you have to return when you leave?

You're quite right, the ventilation holes in the top give it away (I should have spotted that).

Er, actually that's the Box III ( 585n ) whereas the Box IV is a 587n.

Edit :- Just noticed that webpage states that the model is discontinued and has been replaced with the 585n!! Looks like wires crossed somewhere.

Well the box appears to be a TG587N, based on it's 2x USB ports.
I've bought 3 of these now.. 2 from O2 at £10 each and 1 off Ebay, also for a tenner.

As I understand it, O2 don't have any claim to these, as they were sold standalone, seperate to any broadband contract. I wasn't asked for my details when I bought the 2nd box.

Due to them costing so little, I don't mind pulling one apart to play around with a JTAG or the likes.. but I'd just need a little guidance if I do.

Has anyone had any experience with them, or have any resource links I can look at?

O2 were knocking them out at £10 each.. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
I thought it might be possible to remove some of the restrictions.

For my own use, I'm happy for it to be configured to O2, as I am with them anyway... it's for my friend. I've got a 3rd one that I can break without worry.. might try to get WDS configured on it for my own use.

Have you seen this method? Haven't seen any reports of it being tried on a TG587n yet.

Plus the £25 (or whatever it is) when you don't hand it back at the end of your contract.
I'm sure O2 will only supply them (at £10) to current or new O2 customers.
