I've bought an O2 wireless box IV for myself (I am on O2), and now my friend wants one, but he is on Talk Talk.
Can they be configured to work with Talk Talk, either by loading the OEM firmware onto it, or by issuing commands through a telnet session with the box?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Stu

You would need to unlock it, which is not an easy process.

Why not just go for this it's essentially the same router but not configured to an O2/BE specific connection.

More likely this one as the box IV is wireless-N:

which wouldn't require trying to solder connections onto the eprom chip??
Plus don't O2 own the boxes, even if you buy an upgrade for £10, you have to return when you leave?

You're quite right, the ventilation holes in the top give it away (I should have spotted that).

Er, actually that's the Box III ( 585n ) whereas the Box IV is a 587n.

Edit :- Just noticed that webpage states that the model is discontinued and has been replaced with the 585n!! Looks like wires crossed somewhere.

Thanks for all the replies.
Well the box appears to be a TG587N, based on it's 2x USB ports.
I've bought 3 of these now.. 2 from O2 at £10 each and 1 off Ebay, also for a tenner.
As I understand it, O2 don't have any claim to these, as they were sold standalone, seperate to any broadband contract. I wasn't asked for my details when I bought the 2nd box.
Due to them costing so little, I don't mind pulling one apart to play around with a JTAG or the likes.. but I'd just need a little guidance if I do.
Has anyone had any experience with them, or have any resource links I can look at?
Thanks again!

O2 were knocking them out at £10 each.. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
I thought it might be possible to remove some of the restrictions.
For my own use, I'm happy for it to be configured to O2, as I am with them anyway... it's for my friend. I've got a 3rd one that I can break without worry.. might try to get WDS configured on it for my own use.

Have you seen this method? Haven't seen any reports of it being tried on a TG587n yet.

In reply to a post by Anonymous: O2 were knocking them out at £10 each
Plus the £25 (or whatever it is) when you don't hand it back at the end of your contract.
I'm sure O2 will only supply them (at £10) to current or new O2 customers.

I know that these pc help guys provide variuos BT solutions and you can keep the box after the contract is over (and even sell it lol). Anyone has more info on this? in what cases you can keep the box? How do you then reconfigure it? Can you then order broadband solutions with the box excluded with a discount?

No, O2 shops were supplying them to anyone. No forms to sign, no check on whether you were a customer.
At £10 they are a bargain

Sorry to bump an old thread (I was the original poster...)
Has anyone managed to do this yet? I've still had no luck, but to be honest I'm very much a "newbie" when it comes to this sort of thing.
It seems a shame to have a box with such potential but not be able to use it.
Thanks,
Stu

Thanks RobertoS, but I bought 1 to replace my O2 Wireless box II (TG585 ?), to speed up my wifi (I have a Synology NAS so it helped with media streaming). As they were on offer for just £10, I bought another as a spare and my friend wanted one also (but almost at the same time that he swapped from O2 to TalkTalk. - so his became redundant)
So I guess the only one that's wasted their money so far would be my friend - but at £10 each it's not really that much, and I could probably get the money back on them if I wanted to sell them
