Has anybody here done it? Need a link to instructions plus diagram or pics if possible.
Soldering small connections is no problem.
Cheers,

Yep, I've got three of them sitting around in the house, two supplied by my current isp (one of which is in use) and a third supplied by a previous isp and they are all locked.
These Thomson routers are not expensive items but it would be interesting to mess about with the one supplied by my previous isp ,unlock it and have full access to configuration settings etc.

Thanks BatBoy,
Looks like I'm going to have to find an unlocked router and use it to help unlock the locked one - not sure I know anybody who would lend me their unlocked TG585 v7, we might end up with two knackered routers LOL!
Might find an unlocked one cheap somewhere though, and if I don't bust it, then sell it on

Just heard that a Plusnet TG585 v7 will be automatically unlocked after one year once an account is closed...not sure if this is correct or not?

I doubt that is true as they would have to upload a new CFE to the router, which they couldn't do remotely. Anyway, follow the instructions in this thread...

jimbobaggies,
Thanks for the reply and the info, may give that method a go if I find time...
However just got an inexpensive GetNet router from Scan http://www.scan.co.uk/products/getnet-150mbps-n-wire... that's been running perfectly for three days on adslmax.
Yet to see if it's any good with adsl2+ though...may have to work on one of the Thomsons if it doesn't

Finally got a Tiscali branded TG585 v7 back to Thomson factory defaults and now the setup looks the same as this http://www.gradwell.com/support/kb/article.php?id=49
Used TG585v7_UK_R7447_CL firmware and the Thomson XP&Vista 32bit UPG Wizard v7200 UPGRADE TOOL.
Hopefully will try the same with a Plusnet branded TG585 v7 with generic 8.2.6.5 firmware next - problem is that the modem-help web site appears to be down and I can not access any Alcatel firmware at the moment

BatBoy,
Software only
Guess a JTAG build would definitely be needed for a locked O2 box though...

Got the Plusnet branded tg585 v7 router back to Thomson factory defaults - found generic 8.2.6.5 firmware (ZZ5YAA8.265.bli) elsewhere on the net and it works a treat
Both the Firewall and wireless security is off by default after the setup but no problem to turn them on. Also router user name, i.e. admin, and password is required to access the GUI during the setup.

Mine has not failed since I applied the firmware update. With the generic 7.4.4.7 it used to lock out ethernet connected PCs every few days and had to be rebooted.
I am hoping that this will continue.
The firmware update procedure kept my userid and passwords, and the Wifi security.

Michael,
I've had the unbranded 8.2.6.5 firmware running for 24 hours now and it is very stable with no disconnections - had a few problems setting up file sharing on the WLAN between Win7 sp1 32bit and XP sp3 32bit machines but I think that was caused by the Kaspersky firewalls. Wireless signal has been very good using WPA2 AES encryption although I turn wireless off when I'm not using it.
Will have to see how it goes during the next few days with the XP machine connected over ethernet...
