DG834Gv5 dropping TCP connections

When I make an SSH connection over a DG834Gv5 from my LAN outbound to remote machines, the connection will silently drop if it is idle. Previously I had did not have this problem with my DLink 504 so I am sure it is related to the new router.

It happens over wireless or wired. Everything else seems okay, it's just when a TCP connection is idling and therefore is very noticeable when using SSH.

Has anyone else seen this, and if so has any fix been found?

Firmware Version is V1.6.01.34, the latest.

Two questions.

What else runs on your connection? Any P2P?

On the remote end, is this your server or one that is managed by someone else? Has anything changed there, like firewalling that may have a TCP timeout set?

Nothing else need be running on the connection. Perhaps I'll be watching iPlayer, which is why the connection idles, but it doesn't have to be.

It isn't limited to one server - it can be any. This includes machines behind another ADSL connection (Zyxel router), Slicehost servers and genuine corporate servers in datacentres (across at least four sites that I can remember). All of which will stay connected fine for days on end on from another of my ADSL connections, which runs off the aformentioned Zyxel router.

I do run NAT on the Netgear, could the NAT table be timing out?

Could be timing out, or getting full, so older connections are closed.

When/if you login to a remote SSH server after it has timed out, can you see the old connection still active?

If you have the option, turn keep-alive on in your SSH client, this should work around the issue in the interim.
