Massive difference in Upload speeds (netgear vs thomson)

Ok so i'm on o2 Annex M

Now my O2 box IV syncs at 1600kbps ish

and my netgear DG384G syncs around 2200kbps

Why such a massive difference is the netgear using some difference mode or technology ?

is it just the chipset?

as i would not mind the o2 box matching or even getting near the netgears upload sync

Any thoughts would be good thanks.

If the DG834G is a v4 then it is Broadcom chipped, some of O₂'s line management equipment is Broadcom chipped so maybe that helps in some way for the Netgear to get the higher sync rate?

But that's why the O2 box is Broadcom chipset.

I haven't been taking much notice, but IIRC there have been a few issues with the Box IV discussed in the O2 forum here.

Its a v3 (AR7 chipset i think)

The o2 is

a TG587nv2 some sort of broadcom one.

It appears that the TI (spit - I was a NATIONAList) AR7 chipset is actually good at something.

Based on these results, I purchased a ZyXEL P-660R-D1, with 3.40(ANZ.6)G1 firmware.
My upstream sync rate went from ~2Mb/s to ~2.5Mb/s - a very welcome 25% increase over the Broadcom chipset based modems.
I lost approximately 4% on the downstream sync rate (~17.2Mb/s to ~16.6Mb/s) - easily outweighed by the upstream gains.

ADDENDUM:

Current sync rates after the most recent (>11 hours), single phase power outage (power supplied by the Sahara Desert Hydro-Electric Power Generating Company, trading as E-On, formerly Eastern Electricity);

Interface Status Rate 
DSL Up  16625 kbps / 2540 kbps

What does that have to do with anything?
