Dear All,
Im just wondering how good is this modem? Does it give good sync speeds or stabibility? Could it be a good for my rather bad line, which Ive had to get escalated to the Chairman's office in BT.
Downstream/Upstream
My attenuation is 68dB/31.5dB
SNR 6dB/7dB
Sync: 678/448
Router: BT Home Hub 3.0, I could use the modem with the HH3 like an infinity modem, but for ADSL.

I believe the standard advice for long/noisy lines is to try a BT 2700HGV (BT Business Hub). Get one for circa £20 on ebay.

Got one, the BT Home Hub 3.0 gives the same sync speed's and is in line with the Business's Hub's capabilities, its a much better improvement on it's predecessor.

Ive got Belkin FD8636-1, 2 Bt Business Hubs, 2 BT Home hubs, Hawei HG532 and HG521, Netgear DGN2000 (With DGTeam firmware) and then the Home Hub 3.0

I think he should be looking beyond the modem. 2 modems are usually enough to rule out the modem as the problem.

I've found that different chipsets can make a huge difference in coping with line conditions!

On long high attenuation lines it really is a case of try it and see. As others suggest, the 2700 HGV is always a good starting point but how teh M3 will compare, only a test can prove it.
On your line it could fail to sync, but on your neighbours it might give better performance than the 2700.

Well after month's of fiddling, and tweaking and new router's and clear line we have a sync speed of 2692kbps.

To answer the original question the X-Modem M3 has no optimisation to make it deal with poor conditions any better than others on long lines, in fact I would suggest that it wouldn't be a good choice for a line with exceptionally poor conditions as it is a relatively old chipset, so newer chipset based modems would probably deal with a bad line better.
