Is it?
Am thinking of getting one quite soon and have been scouring the PDF manual of it but there's no mention of IPv4 or IPv6 in it.

'Sponge',
Many thanks for that.
Yes, it looks like the L version is the one to get. It's 'dual-stack'.

Yeah certainly looks the best to get if you want or need IPv6

Availability, as yet, is a problem. I think Billion's still trying to sort out some new firmware for it, providing the IPv6.
Apparently Billion in Australia have released a firmware upgrade 1.06b-6, which includes IPv6 support. However Billion UK have stated 'We do not recommend you to download firmware from the Australian Billion site, and we only support firmware released or sent out by our UK office". So it would probably be at your own risk if you tried using it.

I'm using the latest Aussie firmware on my 7800N which enables ipv6 and I can confirm it works beautifully

"Risk"? Please stop fear-mongering.
I am amused that people still believe that manufacturers will offer any form of meaningful warranty on their retail-level products.
Have you actually tried to make a warranty claim on anything like a domestic router? It's cheaper to throw it in the bin and write off the hundred quid as "experience gained".
If the firmware bricks the router, there is at least a hope of rolling-back oneself. That's better odds than getting it replaced if it explodes in normal use.

It's good to hear that you were successful !
Almost makes me wish I had the 7800N, instead of the basic 7800,
as I don't think that my router would accept the 1.06b-6 firmware.

Netgear will replace routers up to 2 years old. I have the 3rd replacemnt for my DGN2000.

I'm using this now instead of the Aussie version. Sync speed is about the same as 1.06b, HOWEVER there's an annoying bug in 1.06c: Under line stats, the decimal point in Line attenuation & SNR margins has been left out eg attenuation of 27.5 is now shown as 275, SNR of 3.3 is shown as 33. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!
I take it that you'll get in touch with Billion and tell them about the bug?
Does this mean that a model 'NL' will now not be made available in the UK, as was supposed to be the case, and that instead anyone wanting an IPv6-ready version should now merely get the 'N' version and then update its firmware?
Yaay !!
There's even a firmware upgrade for the straight 7800 (No suffix).
This looks like a job that I could easilysqueeze in over the weekend.

Yes I've already told Billion UK about this bug and they said that they are aware of it and will be fixed in next firmware release.
AFAIK the 7800NL is still scheduled to be released in uk, it might be worth regularly checking this website as Broadbandbuyer will probably be the first ones to stock it:

I have the 7800n, and have upgraded to 1.06c, but I cannot find any reference to IPv6, I understand it should be on the WAN Profile page, but it isn't there.

when you have flashed it you must reset to factory defaults.

Oh deary me just called up billion support and asked why there isnt a setting for ipv6 in 1.06c. Was told this firmware does NOT support ipv6 and the mention of it in the release notes was an error. Was assured next fw release will definitely enable ipv6. Sorry for getting everyone excited

Has that Broadband Buyer page always said the 7800NL was discontinued or is that new ?

No, its just recently that the status has changed to "discontinued" previously it was shown as "awaiting stock". I guess this means that the 7800NL will not be released at all in the UK as there seems to be no other retailers here who stock or had stock of this model
That's what i thought
I did speak to Billion customer support about the 7800NL in Nov last year and they didn't think it was going to be released through consumer channels then, instead they were suggesting that it might be available via ISPs.
"This model is what we call a service provider model, so we will be testing with some ISPs next year once they have developed an IPv6 platform."

I'm confused. Does your 7800n display IPv6 info?
yes, but I have the beta firmware, sorry.

I contacted Billion UK sales regarding IPv6 support. They said there is no offical firmware but beta firmware 1.06c.dc1 for testing only is availalble by request via [email protected]

Just a heads up.
new firmware BiPAC 7800N 1.06d firmware was released a couple of days ago.
running fine on my router. And speed has increased slightly as well.

That was mentioned earlier here, but it wasn't clear if it was the IPv6 version.
I'll give it a go if it is

They seem to have broken something on the IPv6 side with 1.06d... everything looks OK on the status pages but it just doesn't work- I can't make an IPv6 connection
I've tried several times, restarting with both current settings and factory default/restore from file.
I'm using fixed IPs for both v4 and v6, I've reverted to 1.06c.

How strange.
d works OK here.. and fixes some nasty bugs in c
Matt
I've put it back to d and done a bit more digging around... it seems that the router is working OK (my IPv6 BQM is working as before), but the Mac won't talk to it with IPv6. Whether I configure it manually or automatically.
And yes, I have tried a reboot
Weird. I've got a horrible feeling I'm going to have to dig out the Windows laptop and see what that does

(Vista and IE8, wired connection)
So it looks like I've screwed up some setting in the router somewhere...

Is it safe to restore from the backup settings file when updating firmware?

Is it safe to restore from the backup settings file when updating firmware? The only statement I'm going to make on that is that it hasn't caused me any problems yet...

Have you submit a support ticket on Billion.uk.com?
Not for that, no- I wanted to do some more tests first, but found another oddity which I have ticketed- every few minutes I get a pair of IPv6 warning messages in the log, enough to fill the log in 3-4 hours.
Apart from that, the IPv6 is working fine.
I want to find out whether it's a bug or maybe something odd in the way my ISP hands out addresses before raising it.
