To Change or not to Change !!!!!!!!!!

At present using a Thomson Speedtouch 546V6 (i) V6.
Have a Netgear DG834 V4 ADSL 2+ Router (never used).
Normal average download speeds are between 4Kbps and 5.5Kbps.
Top speed once was 6458Kbps,a very long time ago.
Do not game or download music or films etc.
My SNR using the DMT Tool always shows as 15 to 15.5.( average is mainly 15).
Would there be any improvement in changing to the Netgear.

It'll take you a couple of minutes to find out tbh.

Acess to router is difficult,strangely 'WOULD HAVE TO LIE ON MY BACK' to get at it.
Even then, it would be a very contorted operation among all the various wires linking two computers. At my age, don't think I should take the risk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Was really taking the EASY way out by posting.
Seems I was caught out.
Do remember a long time ago in ADSLGUIDE/Thinkbroadband, that this particular Version was reported to be very good in some instances.

That's a shame, is it the master socket that is inaccessible as well?

The full line stats requested by john2007 would be very useful, as the bits you have given us suggest a possible problem.

Which ISP and package is it as well?

ISP is IDNET.
Used happily for quite a time. Previous was Zen also OK.
Looking under the desk with the two computers and the Scout KVM box and 16 years of wiring (looks like a nightmare) not a place I would, through choice go to.
I think I was being a little bit over dramatic in the description of the difficulty.
I think the ethernet cable is long enough to attach directly from to the telephone socket from the Router and Comp.
I am OK with the speed I receive, just have this Netgear stuck away in a box among my other computer 'Bits and Pieces', even found a copy of Windows 95!!!!!!
Maybe I should get out more.
Figures are the result of switching off, when computers are not in use.

Your line should be performing a lot better (with a downstream attenuation of 20dB you should be getting maximum syncs).

Have you done the BT quiet line test with your ADSL router switched off and disconnected? Dual 17070 option 2? Do you hear any noise?

Do you have a test socket (within modernish BT master sockets)? If so check the stats from there. If they are significantly different you may have a easily fixed problem with your home wiring. If you don't have a test socket unplug/switch off as many phones/Sky boxes as possible.

Did the Line Test absolutely------ SILENT.
Have the latest BT socket says ADSL V 10.One connection for Telephone and another for Broadband connection, obviously no filters used.
Nothing at all connected to sockets apart from phone and computer.
No Sky, no alarm etc.
Have just done three speed tests at 9am.
DSLZone UK 5736 Kbps
ZDNET 5764Kbps
Speedtest.net 5900 Kbps
That sort of speed I am happy with, for my use.
Just curious to see what the Netgear might come up with.
As suggested should try it.
