o2 585v7 - Can I upgrade it to work with Plusnet?

I've currently with o2, but thinking of moving to Plusnet.

The Thomson 585v7 that o2 gave me apparently works with Plusnet (from a hardware point of view), but I'll need to flash it with Plusnet firmware.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

If not, I'll have to sign up for Plusnet for 12 months or buy a new router myself. I hoping to avoid both those things if possible smile

You don't need to flash it with the Plusnet firmware - just use the generic firmware assuming that the O2 firmware blocks you changing the login details
If you take the free router you don't sign up for 12 months but if you leave early then you pay for the router - it is still 10 days notice

The O2 router is locked to O2 and unlocking it to use with another provider is no easy feat.

The o2 Router belongs to O2, and they will charge you if you do not return it after you cancel. I cant remember the charge exactly but remember it is more than the cost of a cheap router.

Yep, you're right - just asked for MAC code from o2, and they said we'd have to send router back.
Good point about Plusnet though - I'd assumed the 12 months would mean I'd have to pay for entire 12 months if I left early, but as stated above, I'd just pay for router.

You will also have to pay an activation charge of £25 if you didn't pay for it initially when taking out a BB only 12 month contract.

Plusnet will also supply the DGN2200 which has wireless N, but is no quite as good as the 585v7 on 60 db loss lines.

As far as I know the 585 is the standard offering and alternatives are only offered in exceptional circumstances
