After any suggestions for a Gb router for O2 Hi, the present new outstanding router, the 4-port Gigabit Billion 7800N

Anyone know if the 7800N can be mounted vertically and is this a good or a bad thing? I'm thinking air flow and temperature distribution.

Anyone know if the 7800N can be mounted vertically Yes it can- there's sets of "keyhole' apertures underneath to allow any of the four side faces to be "up". Though with three aerials it might look a bit odd in some orientations. and is this a good or a bad thing? I'm thinking air flow and temperature distribution. I don't see it doing any harm .
The vented faces are on top, bottom, left and right.

I have been using a BiPAC 7800 for over a month now.
It is free standing horizontally and runs quite cool in that position.
The upper surface appears to be resonably well ventilated.

The vented faces are on top, bottom, left and right. So vertically mounted in 'landscape format', vents would be front, back, left and right, as viewed from the front.

That's it.
And assuming cables coming in at the bottom, the indicator LEDs would be on the top which might not be convenient if you mount the router high up for best wireless range. Mount it so you can see the LEDs and the cables enter from the top, which isn't pretty
Something tells me it's intended to sit on a flat horizontal surface, and it seems fine that way. I've got mine on a shelf about 5' above floor level, over the iMac. It runs warm, but certainly not hot to the touch.

Depends on where the cables route from ... My old ST570 was mounted that way, LED on the bottom so I could see them from downstairs and the cables in at the top, just below the first floor ceiling - the came out of the wall just above, after routing through the attic and built in cupboard.

That's all very true... but I suspect more people are like me (put it where it will fit) rather than like you (flood-wire the house with Cat6e)

It runs warm, but certainly not hot to the touch. This would be upstairs with the cables coming in from the bottom. The LEDs wouldn't be visible anyway, since it would be in a ventilated cabinet towards an upstairs ceiling, in order to obtain the greatest wireless coverage. It might just fit horizontally, but vertically would allow greater air movement.
I have got Cat5e wiring, but not everywhere.

That was the first install ... just happened to be the right place. Even if some "nice" trunking is used to get the cable to the top, a high point with LEDs down is ideal for coverage.

I can also recommend the 7800N. Had mine a few days now. The well ventilated top surface does get reasonably warm. & I'm thinking it would actually be better vertical as it wouldn't catch so much dust.
One point that is not obvious but nice is that this is actually a 5-port switch - 4 Gb ports and a 100Mb port (the EWAN port can be used, I've got my printer plugged in to it now).
