Removing an old master socket

If a new style NTE5 master socket is fitted inside a house, and the old style master socket is then wired into the new style master socket as an extension, does the old style master socket become the customer's property and therefore it is allowed to be removed by the customer?

Provided that the old style master has been connected to the customer IDCs of the NTE-5 the answers are yes and yes.
The customer IDCs are the ones on the removeable CCU (customer connection unit)

It is unlikely that a BT technician would install two masters in series - are you sure it is a master and not modified to become a secondary?

As for becoming your property - NO unless BT specifically sign ownership across. In practice, unless you are paying rental for a second socket, BT records are unlikely to know.

Yes, that's the configuration. Removing the new master socket faceplate cuts off the old master socket which is now wired into the customer IDC.

Not modified as far as I'm aware. The old master has an extension running off it, otherwise I'm guessing he would have removed it entirely as it's only about half a metre from the new socket, on the same wall.

Doesn't the demarcation point instated by the new NTE5 re-designate that wiring to me? I mean, if that old master socket develops a fault I'm guessing I'd be billed now that the new NTE5 sets the new demarcation point.

Yes if you called in Openreach for a fault beyond the NTE-5, you would be billed. After all in the grand scheme of things how are you supposed to know it is an old master anyway, all you have done is disconnect a socket which is connected to customer terminals which you are allowed to do.

WRONG - if BT install additional wiring it could be covered by either a warranty or rental or maintenance agreement.

That's good then. The old master socket is way past its sell by date and needs to be retired!

But not in this case, as Oliver has said it is an old master, so has been there well over a year, and he has not said there is a mantenance agreement.
All he wants to do is disconnect a socket connected to the customer terminals of a NTE-5 and why should'nt he? He cannot be expected to know who fitted the socket or when.

If you are not aware of a mantenace agreement, then you do not have one, yes it would be on your BT bill.

The old master socket was there when I moved in about 11 years ago, and about 6 years ago the NTE5 was fitted during a fault investigation. The old master was wired into the customer IDC of the new NTE5 by the engineer. The old master looks very old.
