Can't Downgrade SpeedTouch 546v6 - Please Help!

I have got a SpeedTouch 546v6 that I would like to downgrade to be able to use DMT's full functionality with it. I am looking to downgrade it to firmware 6.1.0.5. I have managed to downgrade it to firmware 6.1.9.6 but it won't go any lower than that, I can upgrade it but not downgrade it any further than 6.1.9.6.

When I use the downgrade wizard it get's to about 30 percent and then it says "router rebooted in the wrong mode" and then I have to upgrade the router to get it out of kernel mode. This was with a static IP.

What can I do?

Quite normal for you not to be able to down grade beyond a certain point. Many reason but unlikely to be able to get round it.

I found these instructions on PCAdvisor forum a long time ago and it worked for me when I had the same problem with a 585.
I've no idea if it works for the 546 but might be worth trying.

Connect the unit to the computer via �Ethernet port 1�

Have the �SpeedTouch Upgrade Wizard� interface open; either from SpeedTouch CD or file.

Begin with the unit powered �Off� via switch at the back

Using pin/pencil push the �Reset� button and hold it in

Keeping the �Reset� button pushed in, power �On� the unit.

Do Not Release the �Reset� button for 15 seconds.

The �Power� light initially goes �amber� and then both �Power� and �Ethernet� lights should flash between �red� and �green�

Run the �SpeedTouch Upgrade Wizard�.

You only have around a minute to start the wizard before the SpeedTouch reverts to the �normal� bootup and the downgrade will fail if this happens."
