HomeHub 2 with HomeHub 3 as access Point via Cat5 to HomHub2

Hello I think this may be the right place to ask this question. I have searched many Forums but cannot find an answer to this strange problem. I have an existing Home Hub2 which is connected to the incoming line and all works perfectly on the 2 PCs that I have. I also have a Home Hub 3 router which I wanted to use as an Access Point in another part of the house, I have a CAT5 cable from the Home Hub 3 ( access point ) to the Home Hub 2 Router so I am not trying to do a Wireless to Wireless setup. On the Home Hub 3 ( access point ) I have changed the IP address from the existing 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.1.200. I have disabled the DHCP Server in the Home Hub 3. At this point all seems to be OK. On a Laptop with Wireless I can connect to the HomeHub3 and all SEEMS to be working fine� BUT I notice that if I am streaming any Video from one of my PCs to the Other PC ( these are just connected by CAT5 to the Home Hub 2 Router ) it will Stop after about 5 to 10 seconds and then after about 5 seconds it starts again. After some thoughts I then started to think it was something to do with the HomeHub 3 ( access Point ). If then appears that if I connect my Laptop to the HH3 Access point, the Video Streaming from PC to PC stops for a while. If I unplug the Cat5 cable that goes from HH2 to HH3 it all works again. So, I also have an old D-LINK 11mb access point so I then decided to try this instead with the same IP address and all works fine. So can any advise me what is the problem with trying to use the HH3 as an access point.. Thanks in advance John

Your setup should work. You've done the most important things like have different unique ip addresses and only one dhcp. Also i assume that the cat5 cable is connected to the lan ports between the two devices.

You maybe getting interference on your wireless connection.
Try setting your wireless channel to a different one on the problematic router / AP eg from auto to say channel 2.

I have done this setup many times and have never experienced any problems.

Configure manually
Router Address: 192.168.1.251

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Enable DHCP
First DHCP Address: 192.168.1.21

Last DHCP Address: 192.168.1.250


Access Point: 192.168.1.253
---------

I also use the wireless on both router and access point.

Both cannel: 9

Router SSID: Mickey Mouse

Access Point SSID: Minne Mouse

I then know to which one I am connected.

Probably not a goog idea to give the AP an IP address of 192,168.1.253. This address is used by both the HHv2 and v3 usb port which is fixed and non configurable. This will probably cause problems. I think the OP is correct with his ip addresses allocations.

Okay! He can use any numbers from 1 to 20 which are not within DHCP server range for the Static IP Addresses.

Just for information....
I have a HomeHub2 as my router. I found then when video is streamedit (e.g. from PC to PS3) and both devices are connected through the HomeHub2 then the streaming is very stop/start.
This is with both devices connected using CAT5.
I found that the way to get a decent streaming speed was to have a separate switch for the internal connections and only a single link to the Homehub as a router.

I am not convinced the LAN side of the homehub is up to the job of streaming video through it.
Works great as a router, not so good as a switch.
