I have just bought a ASUS-N16 and have stuck tomato on it. I want to avoid double NAT so I have seen the Draytek Vigor 120 which does PPPoA to PPPoE bridiging. This would be the modem I would buy straight away, except it doesnt have the broadcom chipset in it. I want broadcom as my exchange is broadcom.
So does anyone know of an ADSL 2+ modem with broadcom chipset that supports PPPoA to PPPoE bridging?
Many thanks.

Get one of the basic Speedtouch 546 routers. You can change the config to do what you want and takes no more than 5-10 minutes.
Edit: or alternatively, if you can get a small block of 4 IP addresses from your ISP, do real routing instead of PPPoE which would be much better and the Tomato box would still have its own IP without needing NAT between the router/modem.

My ISP is Sky llu. Would they even offer 4 IP addresses?
I have a netgear DG834N with dgteam firmware on it. This is great as it allows me to tweak my SNR, which im not sure if the speedtouch would allow for.
With the block of 4 IP addresses would it be possible to reuse the DG834N in modem mode with tomoato, saving me buying a new modem.

I dont think they do/will.
Going back to the Speedtouch 546, that can just act as the modem and your other device would do the PPP part.

So before I pull the trigger on the Speedtouch 546 http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?...
It does do PPPoA to PPPoE. I do not want double NAT, as this can cause problems with voip ive heard.
My IP address is dynamic. Will this cause problems if I ever loose connection and get a new IP address?
Many thanks.

What's MER ?
looking at Sky LLU the other day it wasn't PPPoA it was IPoE or something (I forget) on an oddball VP,VC combination.

It's MAC Encapsulated Routing, a variation of Ethernet over ATM I think. VPI/VCI is 0/40 when on Sky's MER network.
Interesting information on the topic: http://billion.uk.com/esupport/index.php?/Knowledgeb...

Well my connection is definitely using PPPoA, it seems this modem ive bought doesnt convert PPPoA to PPPoE.
Maybe if I set up PPTP from tomato. I made a post asking for help on home networking section. There seems to be no guides on the internet tailered to my needs so some help would be appreciated.

If you put the standard firmware back on your netgear you should be able to access the following page:
http://192.168.0.1/mode.htm (Replace IP with IP of the netgear.)
This gives you an option to switch to modem only mode which then lets you use PPPOE on your router.
I'm using this mode with my DG834v4 and a separate router.
If you connect an extra cable from the Netgear to the Lan side of your router you can still have access to the modem config screen/stats etc. (IP address of the Netgear must be on the same subnet as your Lan)

I use a billion 7700N in bridge mode. I talk to it from a draytek 2920 via pppoe. Have no problems with the setup. Are you sure you need pppoa? BT kit is usually happy to accept pppoe too. Not sure about others.
I've also used a netgear DG834G v3 and v4 and 2-wire 2700HG in the past, bridged.
