Hi,
I'd like to use the Be-supplied Speedtouch TG585 v7 with my new C&W service but it's requesting a static IP, etc and my new service is dynamic but requires a login.
Is there a way to install a new firmware (it's currently using the Be Software Release 7.4.20.3)?

hi there by the way you will get a bill for £35 pounds for the router if you dont send it back i know i had 3 of them i had 4 days to send them back our i would get a bill for each one /by the way you can not get the thomson tg585 v7 firmware for love nor money /most are pre intalled firmware for the isp provider

Anon,
Be routers are indeed a no no, but TG585 v7's, branded by other ISP's, will accept a firmware update. I have done it with one Tiscali and two PlusNet branded TG585 v7's, currently using generic firmware 8.2.6.5 for my uno SMPF (partial LLU - G.992.5 annex A) connection without any problems.

If it's not a Be or O2 supplied router then you shouldn't have too many problems.
First thing is to reset the router to defaults (pin hole in the back) without it connected to the phone line or computer. Then connect it to the pc over ethernet and run the firmware update - see http://forums.modem-help.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=8359 etc.

But in his opening post he says it is, and hasn't said anything about having obtained any other.
When you said "a no no", did you mean the flash can't be done, or just that he would end up getting billed for not returning it? £35 looks like a good deal if that was the reason .

Yes you a right he didn't say anything about an alternative TG585 v7. If it is a Be router then a software firmware update will be impossible, hence my "no, no"
If on the other hand another branded TG585 v7 router is available, e.g. Plusnet, Tiscali, etc. then a firmware update should be possible which was actually my initial response to Anon's post.

The 585 v7 IS a BeBox ...
Product Name: TG585 v7
Software Release: 8.2.7.7
The only problem is that for some reason the template file for '1 dynamic' is missing when I select 'setup my Thomson Gateway'. This means I am only presented with two options: 'Static IP' and 'Bridge Mode'. Neither are suitable for my new C&W LLU service, which is dynamic.
I have downloaded the correct dynamic IP template from the Be site (Dyn.tpl), but how on earth do I actually install it on the bebox?

I would expect to load a Be template you use the Restore function. But I advise using the Save first, otherwise you may end up with it dead.
Though as I remember it, they were ini files.

Indeed. The profile settings are stored in an .ini, but the Be templates are in a different format and apparently need to be uploaded to the router via FTP. Not working for me.
So I have my fast new internet connection, but the wrong router! 
Can any of you wise folks recommend a good router which would be suitable for the C&W LLU network?

If its indeed a Bebox, you can download the firmware bundle from o2help and "upgrade" to the O2 firmware, which should work with C&W 
|

Thanks BatBoy, but that doesn't work either.
The firmware installs fine (8.2.7.7) and recognises the Speedtouch 585 v7 as an O2 box.
Problem is, it's asking for the same Static IP, Default Gateway and when you select 'setup', so I can see no option to set it up with the details provided for C&W LLU service.
Or did I miss something?

What's the C&W service details look like?
Link Status: Contacting DHCP server...
Type: ETHoA
C&W has supplied static IP, login and password. Everything else should be 'dynamic'.
The Be / O2 box insists on the following: Static IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.
Other crazy thing is this:
If I try and connect by FTP to upload a template and/or use the restore/backup utility at http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/bandr/?be=0&l0=0&l1=1&tid=BACKUP_RESTORE, it requests a user/pass
NOTHING works .. tried all the usual like admin, Administrator / Serial Number, etc.
Weird.
So, can't setup it up as dynamic and can't connect to upload any new templates!!

To unlock that Be router you will possibly have to be very handy with a soldering iron and treat the whole exercise as a challenge!
See: http://forums.modem-help.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1220&... but paradoxically you may need an additional unlocked TG585v7 router to do it...
Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thomson-TG585-V7-54-Mbps-4... may be you best bet rather than mess with the BeBox.

That's quite apart from the fact that the subject under discussion in the exchange to which you just contributed is about an O2 box, which is not the same as a Be box, and never was.
Also if you examine the headers of the posts, you replied to BatBoy. There is a Reply button against each post here, not just a Submit/Post for the thread. I suggest you use the right one.
Which wall is BatBoy banging his head against about what? Unless you think his head has a Be EPROM in it, which is what you said. Or do I misread your post, as it could mean the wall has a Be EPROM in it?

O2 Boxes are all JTAG firmware locked to O2 as far as I'm aware
Only the 585v7 BeBox is JTAG firmware locked to BE - the others are not
I'm sure the OP said it was a BeBox

NB: O2 and Be only lease the router to you and will charge for non-return if you leave and do not return it
I know you know this RobertoS, but many seem to overlook this fact and then wonder why they get a large bil when they leave (not so large these days with BE at £35)
The exception with BE is the 716G and the 780WL which no longer have to be returned and those 587nv2 that were given out as loyalty rewards, offers or competitions

Well, updating it to the O2 firmware BatBoy suggested above appears to have bricked it!
I can connect to the O2 interface, but any attempt to connect to the 'Thomson Gateway' to upload a template or upgrade/downgrade the firmware requires a login. The Administrator / Serial # doesn't work, nor do all the other combinations tried on various forums.

I thought the user is SuperUser?
as in: username "SuperUser". The password is either "O2Br0ad64nd" or the serial number of your router (printed on its underside, excluding the bit in brackets)

I also tried the generic firmware that you provided the link to, and now i cannot login - i also have tried the usual combinations of passwords, and your "SuperUser" suggestion - sadly none of them working
I'm not having a go at anyone, i understood what it meant when you said that the upgrade is performed "at your own risk" - just wondering if anyone has found out the username / password combination for the linked firmware???

IIRC the login name for generic fw on the 585 is the admin or administrator, maybe with the initial "a" capitalised. Password will be blank or "password" I think.
My bog standard 585 is somewhere half way across the loft sorry.

Yes even after doing a factory reset and installing generic firmware the login will remain either as Administrator or admin with a 585 v7 (I'm talking about ex-Tiscali and ex-Plusnet branded ones here though.)

Problem with telnet from Windows Command Prompt is that you will still need a user name log-in and perhaps a password which isn't much different than using the browser.
Although I guess there could be issues with IE10....
You could try telnet 192.168.1.254 from Windows Command Prompt and you may be lucky

Sorry lads - i have tried every password i can think of, and researched on various sites.
The Telnet is coming up as unrecognised, so i'm assuming it was taken out of Windows 7 and i'll need to find a replacement?
any other thoughts?
