Advice required - which Router for torrents + STO?

Hi everyone

I currently have a Netgear DG834Gv3 connected to Be* Unlimited. Having a problem at the moment where if anything is in the torrent queue, my better half can't play her Star Trek Online. She starts suffering from multiple kicks and long load times. I'm looking for a sensible upgrade that does QoS and has a good handle on multiple concurrent connections while still allowing her to play STO in peace. Also IPv6 which Be* are starting to move towards. Oh, and preferably a broadcom chipset?

What do you guys use?

I loved my v3 but tbh its not very good for BE connections

I would probably pick up a DGN2000 there pretty good and cheap.

I used that and the DG834GT both worked well but i fried them both

i'm currently using the new BEbox v2 (speedtouch 582n) and its actually not too bad.

I'm not too concerned with budget - I did look at the Billion 7800n as that seems to garner lots of favourable reviews - the OH took one look at it and went 'eww that's really ugly', but cooed over the Netgear DGND3300!

Don't get me wrong, I'd get another Netgear if I thought they were more robust in the traffic management/torrenty kind of areas.

DGND3300v2 is great for BE connections

Billions have good rep also i've used the lesser 7700n which was good but had problems picking up an ip address

The linksys X3000 is a decent piece of kit also.

Does your torrent client allow you to throttle back the upload and download speeds it will utilise?

What happens if you connect using the BeBox and then connect the v3 to it by ethernet? You need to disable the v3 DHCP and change its default IP address.

Or (out of my comfort region) couldn't you just use the BeBox as the modem and bridge to the v3?

I assume you know the v3 isn't at all good on Be? It doesn't have a Broadcom chipset.

I use Transmission, and yes it does. I've set the download/upload to 20/10kB respectively (can download at roughly 500kB/sec total so she still has 90% or more of the available bandwidth, but even so, it still plays up until I quit Transmission.

Wow - Hadn't thought about it that deeply

Basically I'd be wanting to replace it for another modem/router with better management, rather than having multiple boxes plugged in (plus plug sockets are at a premium here)

You could try using IPQoS in your BeBox.

Place your better half's PC in a high priority queue and if need be your torrent PC in a low priority queue.
This works best for upload traffic so don't know how well it will work with your issue.

The link you gave is for a 587n router, I have the 585v7 I think. Maybe v6.
