openreach vdsl modem

Hi,I have had infinity option 2 up and running for 9 days now with no problems.
Speed is slightly higher than the estimate,no drop outs etc.
In fact I can say I am well pleased.
However,I have read about unlocked firmware etc. to get full line stats etc. but is it worth me tinkering if I have no known probs at the moment.
Maybe the answer is obvious to some but I am curious by nature.
Would be interested in other users opinions.

The unlocked fimware only works on the Huwaei modems.

I have just had an FTTC instal today and fully intend to "monitor" the connection - I bought a modem on eBay in preparation .

With the unlocked firmware you can also stop BT access to the management facilities of the device.

With no problems it is obviously not "essential" but if the connection is not at the full 80 / 20 (or whichever package you have) you have no way of knowing if there is a progressive reduction of sync speeds for any reason.

That's the modem I have.I already have the instructions how to gain access etc.
Maybe I will wait to see if any problems occur.
On ordering I was given an estimate of 52 down and 10 up and achieve approx.55 down and 10 up this I can live with.

It's always useful to have "before & after" stats, just in case your connection deteriorates & your ISP and or BT claim it has always been like that....................

I think you have that back to front .

If you are not on the full speed for your package, you will certainly become aware of a progressive reduction. It's when you are on the maximum for your package that the unlocked modem allows you to be aware of a progressive reduction in the maximum possible for your line.

Hmm - what I thought and what I typed were not entirely in agreement!

I blame the FTTC install this morning which I was waiting for a chance to play with when I got home from work
