Since the thunderstorms last night it appears my broadband has taken a hit and the phone light on the router will not come on.
The phone line is working so I tried switching the filters, still no luck. I switched the DSL cable too and still nothing.
The power light is green (red indicted hardware error) so could it be an AOL error worth ringing them about before I buy a new kit?
The broadband light is flickering showing it is trying to establish connection but with no phone line I cannot see it working?

It is the 2Wire BT Business Hub 2700HGV
The power light should be on all the time, as well as the Ethernet when the PC is on. Th phone line should also be showing as that shows that there is a DSL cable in it.
It should then connect to the internet.
I hear nothing, it oots up as normal but no life from the DSL line. Yes the voice line is fine.

It may be the lightning protectors have blown to protect the other hardware on the network, i.e. killed by the storm.
Only way to know is take modem to a known working line, or bring a known working modem to this line.

Well the phone line works and changing the filter did not change this, so it could be an AOL issue or you think it is the router.
I have other routers I will have to try out when I get home.

More likely to be a dead router if the storm was fairly close, DSL modems are sensitive little creatures.
A general AOL outage would mean you have sync but no connection to the internet usually. Unless the telephone exchange hardware is having a very bad day or took a lightning hit, they usually have grounding to avoid this sort of damage.

I will certainly try another when I get home but all of it was switched off overnight so it seems weird to just go.

the 2wire's should click as they look on the two pairs for a signal
on mine the bottom lights are broadband and internet, the two "phone" lights are for VoIP as is the "phone lines" socket. The actual BT line goes in the DSL socket.

If plugged into the lightning protection can still break if it sees a small surge.
Alternatively it might just be a component has failed, which can happen.
