Hi guys,
I've bought a TP-link TD-8840T (ADSL 2+ modem/router) that needs to be used with the Asus RT N66U. So how do I go about this as this is the first time doing it.
Do I need to set up and configure the ADSL 2+ modem/router first before disconnecting it and connecting it to the Asus RT N66U?
A step-by-step guide would be most appreciated, thanks.

As that TP Link is a combined modem and router, best to run the RT-N66U in its access point mode

To add, get the TP Link up and running and then configure the Asus device

Thank you, will set up the TP-link first and then configure it with Asus. Will keep you updated with any obstacles I come across.

Or you could set the TP link to modem mode if it has one and use the routing features of the Asus.

I did not see mention on a quick browse of the specs, so went with what I know should work, i.e. I have run the RT unit in this mode

So I wouldn't need to touch any settings of the TP-link if it has a modem mode (enabled) , so then I can configure all of the settings through Asus?

Depends on the way the modem mode works on the TP-Link, but there would usually be stuff to configure in that, and then the subsequent NAT routing would be handled by the RT N66U router
Without that specific TP-Link to play with hard to say more

Here is a link of the TP-link (modem/router), could you guys tell me what areas I need to configure in order to make it work with the Asus RT 66U, this would be much appreciated again.

Select WAN Service Setup bridge mode
VPI 0
VCI 38
Encapsulation mode VC-Mux
ATM Qos Type UBR
Then the Internet connection of the Asus needs to be setup as PPPOE mode in WAN | Internet Connection window, and there you supply your providers login credentials.
Generally if people are asking to the level of detail you are, it is best to use the TPLink to do modem and router function and leave the Asus to operate as a wireless access point as originally suggested.
