Re: How to set up my ADSL 2+ to the Asus RT N66U

[re: MrSaffron] [link to this post]

The RT-N66U isn't just pricey, it's worth it, it's absolutely one of the best consumer routers you can get, I wouldn't completely waste it by letting a tplink TD-8840T do the routing.

Use the tplink in modem only mode, let the rt-n66u do all the hard work.

guys I'm getting the following error when inputting the VPI/VCI values (0/38) in my TP-link (see below)

"Notice:The current PVC has a plurality of connection, the following parameters prohibiting to modifying!"

"PPPoA don't support single PVC multi-channel connection"

Any help?

Sounds like it may already have a connection configured in the user interface?

So what actions are required?

See manual I used for reference at
http://www.tp-link.com/Resources/document/TD-8840T_V...

Page 17 - in the WAN settings do you have options shown, the trick would be to delete them, but as I don't know if you are trying to use bridge mode or pure PPPoA cannot comment much more.

Sorry I'm trying to get the TP-link into bridge mode, so I can use my Asus as the main router . That said shall I follow what Page 17 states?

You will still need to get a bridge mode connection using VPI/VCI into the table, so edit an existing or delete them all.

I can bridge the TP-link, When I access the Asus setting I need it to PPPoE? correct? as I can't access the net now...

yes your router will make a PPPoE connection over a bridged modem in many cases. There are other ways of doing it.

Look for an external IP address on the WAN port of the Asus as the indication of success.

The modem needs to be in LLC/SNAP mode for PPPoE, not VCmux

CBR, GFR, VBR-nrt, VBR-rt, UBR-plus, ABR ?
