Stand-alone ADSL modem - up to date recommendation

I need a new ADSL modem to work with my Asus RT-N66U router.

I'm aware of the Draytek Vigor 120 and the TP-Link TD-8816.

Are there any other current models which are worth looking at?

Unlocked Hg612 (openreach vdsl modem) works well on my adsl connection.

Hi, we have a plain adsl connection with BT. I have just purchased a HG612 3B for our new asus ac66u, flashed the modem with the current firmware and am now lost, how do I set this modem up for adsl, exactly what settings should I be using or is this automatic process? I have read that "with BT you need to use PPPoE username and password, the username is [email protected] and for the password just use a single space"" Is this only for vdsl?
I have looked at the images on wordpress, but still unsure of what I should be doing next.

Some guidance would be much appreciated and although I am very familiar with search functions, I just can't seem to find any clarity on the adsl options/settings for the HG612.

I think you need to go to Basic | ATM and set the VPI/VCI to 0/38 on the HG612. The username you have is correct.

Do you mean you have flashed it with the latest "unlocked" firmware, or simply updated it to the latest Openreach version?

In either case it should be in bridged mode and you input the login details for your ADSL service to your ASUS router just as with a combined modem/router.

I think it needs to be unlocked to set up the ADSL parameters.

Guys sorry for being a bit vague in request, I haven't connected either device to the live line yet, just want to get my ducks in row first.

Allenlux apologies for hijacking your thread. I was in a similar situation, which one should I get? I just wanted a standalone modem, I couldn't find any more than the ones you have mentioned and after reading reviews (including many customer reviews) and a little research suggests the HG612 is better value for money, is reliable, and doesn't breakdown after 4 months use and it should do the same if not a better job than the Vigor120 and holds the line better than the 8816. I picked mine up on the bay for £9.00.

I'm not a massive BT fan especially with regard to their firmware policies but I can't fault them on the hardware it either conks out straight away or lasts for centuries. And this little huawei promises to deliver a lot..

Indeed. BT could have locked it as an ADSL modem as well as a VDSL2 modem but they chose not to. Thanks to people like Asbokid and now ian007jen, we can use the device to it's full potential.
