So rather than use it as a doorstop I have it in pure-bridge mode with the Billion 7800 which seems to work with single threaded downloads, eg no pauses on the stream.
It was difficult to setup in bridge mode because my computer kept looking for 192.168.1.254 as a gateway instead of 192.168.1.1 the Asus default. So eventually I just gave up and changed the LAN address of the Asus to 254 and the Billion to 192.168.1.251 as a pure modem.
Seems the problem with the Billion is it cant handle high single streams of data when in router mode. Might be CPU problem or memory of the billion. The Asus wireless speed and coverage is great much better than the Home Hub 3 I was using as a WAP.
