Help with Asus DSL-ac68u and SSE Fibre

[link to this post]

I picked up one of these earlier this week, spent some time trying to set it up, but had little or no luck with it connecting to SSE.

I'm going to give SSE a call back this evening and try and get the right settings, but am not expecting a great deal of luck.

I was provided with my username and password, and I know its a PPPoE connection, what other information would I need to get from SSE to get the unit to connect?

Thank you for any help. smile

I'm currently connected with the Technicolor Router they provide, although when going into the menu's within the Admin panel it's very limited in relation to the information it will show you.

VLAN ID 101

Worked this time round, thanks Andrew - updated firmware etc.

finding that the speed test the Asus is around 71MB down compared to the BT modem being 76MB down, I can live with that, but is there anything I can do to push it to give me a bit more?

Any ideas on settings etc?

thanks again! smile

First step is to find out the actual connection speed, second would be to check whether any QoS settings are turned on - this can reduce maximum speeds slightly when turned on.

what's the best way to find the 'Actual' connection speed?

QOS settings all appeared to be disabled on the unit!! smile

There should be a router/connection status page in the routers web interface

Stats are still good, maybe SSE is having some peak time congestion issues. if on our speed test the download line is wobbly rather than a nice flat line suggestions congestion may be the issue.

A good test is (and we are talking about the shape of the line rather than the actual figures)

A bad one looks more like

I'll run a test a bit later, after midnight to see if i get speeds I was acheiving before. Have read that there have been issues with the dsl-ac68u modem's, a mass of people have been having connectivity issues and asus have released a beta driver which allows a few settings changes... although it's not helped. I'll see how I fare for the next week or so, if nothing changes then it goes back for a refund and I'll get the netgear d7000.

Cheers.

It's strange that after the reboot the downstream data rate is exactly the same as before.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

yeah, it's very odd. I think there's a serious issue with this router/modem, looking at all of the reports from other users, they seem to have had alot of issues.

I'm seriously considering taking it back to get a refund and get the netgear nighthawk....
