Is the HG612 (with the 30SP08 firmware) still regarded as about the "best" vdsl modem you can get? especially unlocked with the ability to capture stats? I'm on a huwai dslam
I assume other broadcom devices are very close, and the other chipsets have closed the gap, but it's hard to say there is anything better out there? (putting aside the HH5a which is significantly worse, quite likely due to eci chipset/lacking G.INP, and putting aside any cosmetic/power issues)?
I have a "3B" - any notable differences with the 3C etc?
I'm currently evaluating a replacement router (AR900) with integrated modem, and going to go back and test the HG612 again to compare.... results should be about the same but my upstream has lost 0.5-1 Mbps at similar SNR. Could well just be line changes.. Using the HG612 will also give me the option to swap routers to compare other capabilities without angering the vdsl gods....

Yes IMHO the HG612 is a great choice as a standalone VDSL2 modem for those on Huawei cabs. I've tried newer broadcom chipsets on my VDSL2 line (TP Link W9970 & Zyxel VMG1312) both in bridge mode connected to my Linksys router and whilst the sync is slightly higher, pings increase and I get more errors. So I've always gone back to my tried & trusted HG612. The combination of HG612 and a 4 stream 802.11ac Mu-Mimo router such as Asus AC87U or Linksys EA8500 is a solid combination and far better than the ISPs cheaper all-in-one tat.

I've found that the HG612 is the best option for Huawei cabinet users and maybe ECI too.
However the HH5a does support G.INP with the correct firmware, however it also does have a few things annoying about it and since the HH5b I got screwed up my line requiring it to be reset I've vowed to stay clear of any all in one combination modem-routers.
I'm currently set up with the HG612 > Archer C9.... see latency graphs below.

Can you provide any evidence of this? I get G.INP using HG612 and not on a HH5A (all in one).
Which firmware version?
EDIT: this is based on limited testing and comparing sync on hg612 vs hh5 and is not definitive.
I believe HH5A should support g.inp as the open reach spec says it should although I struggle to see or validate it.

As you said yourself, It conforms to SIN498 standard and also Openreach have confirmed it is G.INP capable (but only on the downstream for now)
I have witnessed the sync rates of a HH5a to increase by 6-7mbps at the same time as my HG612 also gaining 6mbps.. (and G.INP)

The HH5A is not MCT tested or certified. Openreach have not confirmed it is G.INP capable.
Now, what firmware version are you referring to?

I have that firmware on my HH5A and that does not give G.INP support. I can easily demonstrate this by swapping between my HH5A and HH5B.

How though??? there's no indications on either HH5 (A/B) that G.INP is active....
How are you telling that G.INP is active on B and not on A?

Well not really, what speed differences are we talking?
Note that its already been found that G.INP on ECI & Lantiq based kit gives different results than those of Broadcom chipset!
