Thinking back, I don't think a Speedtouch is a good idea. I had a couple, but they always dropped the connection and re-synced if the noise margin (SNRM) fell below 3dB. I changed to a series of Netgear 834s over the years, (again the suffix G GT N etc. matters and the version number is important), and they sync'ed about 500Kbps higher and held the connection down to 0dB margin and often -1dB.
Even then the 2-Wires where clearly better on very long lines than the Netgears.
