Wire supposed to be disconnected in BT MK3 Master socket?

Hi, I was fiddling around with the test socket on our BT MK3 when I noticed one of the white/orange wires was disconnected from the faceplate. We don't have any extension sockets. Should this be connected? Thanks

Looks as if you have a filtered faceplate? And have removed both that and the small part that has extension wiring attached to it usually.

If this is the case than the suggestion is that you have an extension somewhere, otherwise no need for any wires to be connected.

The correct wires are connected 2 and 5 for the phone signal and 3 for the ring wire.

So question is where do these wires go, since you would not normally have anything wired in if no extensions.

I just found a very old extension socket hidden away in another room, which we don't use. You say I need 2,5 for telephone and 3 for the ring ( broadband?)
And Yes, it's a filtered faceplate.

As long as you've got a modern style phone then you don't need the ring wire connected.

The ‘disconnected’ wire never was terminated, just ignore it.
