Alternative to BT Openreach (061513) modem?

We have FTTC and as we live so far from the cabinet we do not get great speeds (30 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload).

We have our own Asus mesh router and a BT Openreach (061513) modem which must be over 10 years old. Does the modem itself make any difference to broadband performance and would a modern modem make a difference to our broadband speeds?

Are there many basic modems (not combined modem/router) on the market, all I could find was the DrayTek Vigor 166 VDSL/G.Fast Modem. Any recommendations for a modem that will work with Openreach FTTC but will also work if/when we get FTTP?

You might get a small improvement with a different modem or router with a VDSL port. For FTTP you need a different box usually an ONT.
