VDSL Slow Speeds (Vigor166)

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I've recently moved from Sky broadband to Shell, I was getting around 63mbps with Sky and Shell was around 50mbps. Shell are telling me its within their spec of 33mbps to 76mbps.

How can it differ so much......... info from my modem

Is there anything I can do, should it be faster?

thanks

As you can see the attainable rate is ~63Mbps - but also your noise margin is 13dB - it could be that it will lower the noise margin over time (and actual speed increase)... I had similar difference between reported & attainable rates on my VDSL caused by (electrically) noisy neighbours - that's gone away with the FTTP obviously.

Hi, im using a 166 with a G.fast Connection and comparing your table with mine you appear to be running the pre release firmware (4.0.1 i think).

current is 4.2.4.1 BT with driver version 12-3-2-3-0-5

id personally start with updating that as at least two of the previous updates where labeled as critical.

https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/downloads/vigor-166

use the update file v166_bt_4241.all as that one will update the firmware but keep any custom settings. the v166_bt_4241.rst will do a factory reset as well as updating.

since you have also changed providers it could be you need to let the line settle for a week or two as i also see your interleaved but i dont know the stats well enough to say by how much

Just because i try to help doesn't mean i know what im on about lol

The answer is right there in your modem stats.

Both up and down streams are interleaved which is why you have a reduced snych speed.

Leave the router alone for a few weeks and see what happens.

I have reported the speeds to my isp and they are looking into it and will call me back on wednesday.

Should interleaving only be on for one or the other then or something else?

Interleaving can be on either or both streams.
It means you have noise/an issue on the line , when it clears the speed could improve , the important thing is to leave the modem alone and let the line management system sort it out.

The one thing you can check is if there is audible noise on a phone connected to that line, if so report that as a voice fault.
