Hi all
Further to previous post, I did indeed replace my Vigor 2850 with a Vigor 2927ax and am starting to wish I hadn't bothered. The router seems unable to go more than 2 days without randomly rebooting, sometimes it will reboot in a matter of hours.
Draytek have told me they've not seen any problems with this router themselves and they've got a number of them in use there that do not exhibit this problem. I've tried their standard "what to do if your router keeps rebooting" tips and nothing has worked.
Has anyone else had a problem with this router or can offer any suggestion as to what might be the cause please?
Thanks!

Which version of the firmware are you currently using, quite a few people have reported the 4.4.5.x versions have issues on the uk draytek forum site. Maybe worth going back to 4.4.3.1 if on a later version

I have a Draytek 2927 (not ax however) and it has been working fine. It's on 4.4.5 Firmware
Not much help granted, more an observation.

Before you do anything else, reconfigure the router from scratch, start by applying the latest firmware version with the .rst file which will blank the config. Draytek's can be very sensitive to bad or corrupted configuration.
If it then still reboots, then if you up the tone of the support call with Draytek you will probably get passed onto 2nd line in Taiwan who can do some more advanced debugging.

I'm using 4.4.5.1_RC2 which was sent to me by Draytek support. Hasn't made any difference, the reboots continue...

Is using an .rst version the same as selecting reboot Using factory default configuration then? The latest firmware I have from Draytek, is only the all version, no rst version was supplied to me.

I did try upping the tone of the email but that resulted in my being told they recommend to get the unit RMA'd...

That might not be a bad idea really. It could be a faulty unit and you are just wasting your time? It's a pity as I've had about 4 Draytek routers so far, each one an upgrade on the last, and they have all performed without issue.

Yes to all intents and purposes, so if you've already done that and reconfigured and it's still rebooting, either you are enabling/configuring an unusual feature which has a software bug which is ultimately causing the OS to crash, or you have a faulty device.
You could try configuring the router with some basic settings to narrow it down, but you're paying for a premium product and shouldn't have to resort to this.
My money would be on the WiFi. I had the same sort of experiences with their 2862 range and WiFi and as such don't buy any WiFi offerings from Draytek anymore.
If they've offered you an RMA, then go for it, it quickly rules out any nonsense to do with defective hardware. If the 2nd unit still does the same thing then you can be 99.99% certain you are configuring something which is buggy and they haven't tested or developed properly.

I'm really surprised to hear about an issue like this. I work in IT and have been using Draytek hardware for over 20 years, and I haven't experienced a single issue like this. I've got in excess of 400 firewalls in use, no problems.
Admittedly I don't use the 2927 model but it sounds like you may have a faulty power supply, socket or power fluctuations.
The following would cause a reboot:
1. Reboot schedule - this wouldn't be random.
2. Manual reboot
3. Someone else has gained access to your router and is rebooting it. Check you have not enabled remote management without locking it down to specific IP addresses and you're not using the default password.
4. Power issue
5. Bug
6. Hardware fault

Quite surprised no-one suggested yet but if it has a separate power supply you might consider getting a spare one in case it is no longer supplying enough juice for reliable operation.
Faults can include having an apparently correct voltage as marked when open-circuit but it dragging down or passing too much ripple (e.g. partial failure of DC smoothing caps) when under load.
Many systems can handle a certain range of supply voltages but don't like brown-outs either.

So, the router has managed, right now, 6 days, 18 hours and 53 minutes since the last reboot, this amazing uptime (for this router anyway) has come about after making a small settings change:
Wireless LAN (2.4Ghz) -> General Setup -> Mode changed from Mixed(11b+11g+11n+11ax) to Mixed(11b+11g+11n)
and
Wireless LAN (5Ghz) -> General Setup -> Mode changed from Mixed(11a+11n+11ac+11ax) to Mixed(11a+11n+11ac)
So I'm not totally sure if it's the 2.4GHz or the 5GHz setting that's made the difference but certainly, the random reboots have stopped.
Now I'm wondering if this router is actually defective, if the 11ax hardware is defective or if the firmware just needs more ironing out for this newest wifi standard?

Great to hear an update! I did have that gut feeling..
My money would be on the WiFi. I had the same sort of experiences with their 2862 range and WiFi and as such don't buy any WiFi offerings from Draytek anymore.
So if it is like my experience with WiFi issues and the Draytek, it can be a mixture of both software and hardware bugs. The 802.1ax possibly has some hardware offload shenanigans which could mean that by enabling ax you are bringing up additional hardware inside, or loading an additional driver into the OS, which could have bugs which is causing an eventual crash due to memory leak or whatever.
I would get an RMA first and foremost. If you then get the same issues with a new device, then what Draytek might suggest is sending out a another router with a debugger attached and you can have the joy of helping them fix their bugs..

That's interesting about the Wifi on the Drayteks.
I've had four different models but none of those ever had a Wifi component. My 2927 is wired only and the only time I've rebooted is for configuration changes or firmware updates. They seem to be a solid piece of kit, so surprised about this issue.
I hope it doesn't put the OP off the Brand.

I agree, great routers, will be coming up to 20 years of using Draytek products for home broadband. Their ADSL/VDSL chipsets are the stuff of legend (maybe apart from the 2800 and 2850 eh )
But I stay well clear of any WiFi of theirs now.
