Every so often we all consider new setups routers etc. and it may be useful to have thread about using Ubiquiti Routers or gateway devices in a home environment as I suspect that this may be the way to go in the future, (especially if the house is already wired in Ethernet/CAT Cable), when and if we update our systems.
In our own house in present setup; we use an Asus RT-AX88U Pro as the main router and in my son's room, (which has foil coated plasterboards), we use an Asus AX82U Router, (as an access point), so that he has his own broadband and wifi.
The house is completely wired with CAT6A Cables to all rooms. - The present system is fast and it's reliable and it works great but VLANs can be messy. - (I was previously keeping my older Asus AX88U and was using it as an access point but I sold it because it was not needed because the Asus RT-AX88U Pro already provides good WIFI Range throughout the house).
Every so often I take a look at some Ubiquiti devices, (including recently the UbiQuiti UDR7 which is a WIFI 7 router. - We do not yet need WIFI 7 and a Ubiquiti gateway device with access points may be a better way forward).
As I understand it the WIFI on the Ubiquiti will be inferior but with added Ubiquity Access Points or by keeping the Asus Routers as access points, it will be better and with my CAT6A Cables, (which theoretically can run at 10Mbps), the home network could be future proofed for adding door cameras etc. and quickly keeping them off the home network.
How do others who are already using Ubiquiti devices feel about it and is a Ubiquiti UDR7 Router a good way to go down the Ubiquiti route?

I don't think that the type of network you are building is exclusive to Ubiquiti / Unifi.

The things you are seeking to address here are common to a range of network hardware in any niche above basic home routers. Above a certain level of complexity, vLANs are almost inevitable - and I am not sure that Ubiquiti / Unifi are offering any alternative.

Going for a complte Unifi system makes overall management and visibility incredibly easy.
The UDR7 is limited to a max throughput of 2.3Gbps - whereas the Cloud Gateway Fibre is 5Gbps. Even the older UDM-Pro which I use is 3Gbps. It is just a one device solution whereas for you, a multi-device setup would be way better.
For example: UCG-Fiber as Gateway and controller, a suitable PoE switch from the range, then individual access points chosen for teh WiFi standard you want and location.
If you want camers - then maybe use UDM-Pro/Max/Beast instead of teh UCG-Fiber or add in a UNVR-Instant recorder.

I would say UI is probably the Rolls Royce of this part of the market but its always worth considering the Omada Gateway/Router, AP and Switch range centrally managed via either a hardware or software controller.
I thought I could add very little value and clog up the thread for you!

With my UDM-Pro which is 5 years old and has a 16TB drive added for storage there are currently 10 UI camera running with another camera and doorbell planned. The integration of their protect application with the main Unifi is great and the various Apps for Network Conrol, WiFi management and Protect make it easy.

For others, (like myself), who would be new to Ubiquity it may be useful to know that some Ubiquti devices, (ie. Cloud Devices), have a network control feature located inside the device and the UDR7 and the UCG Fibre both have this feature but some other Ubuntii Devices do not.
Putting VLANs to one side: Asus Routers have been great but I had suspect that Ubiquiti would be a good option for the future and it's really helpful to have an input from someone who already uses Ubiquiti Equipment as that is invaluable.
Right now we only have a 1Gbps broadband connection that runs at about 940Mbps so the UDR7 may be good enough for now but as you point out the UCG Fibre may be a better option for the longer term and I suspect that would be the better choice. (I chose CAT6A Cabling so that it was future proof and a future proof gateway device would be sensible).
At present my Asus RT-AX88U Pro is a stand alone device which is why I was originally leaning towards the UDR7 but the UCG Fibre would be part of a modular system and on the whole a modular system with some built in redundancy sounds good to me.
The reason that most of us update our own routers periodically is better chipsets and advancements in WIFI but with a modular system we may only need to update just the WIFI devices and in my case I have very few WIFI devices so we could keep equipment longer and still be at the cutting edge by changing to a Ubiquiti Modular System.
Right now we do not have cameras but when updating equipment future proof planning could be a sensible consideration.
At present my view is that for a retail user without any Ethernet/CAT Cabling I suspect that Asus Routers would be the better option but for Retail users with complete Ethernet/CAT Cabling then Ubiquiti seems the best option. - (I am happy to be corrected by those who know both systems well).

There are quite a few Ubiquiti users on here!
Like all devices or systems there are a few quirks about how they work! Many years back, I got mine working BQM and have supplied the details about how with several others here.
I have always preferred modular systems wherever I could get it - seperate modem, router, switch WAPs &c and have that with UI. The UDM-Pro itself has a switch, but limited in bandwidth so all of devices go thropug a seperate switch with two exceptions - intruder alarm, so there is one less device in teh path; and a block of cameras which come in on fibre to an SFP in the UDM-Pro as that is where Protect runs.
My connection is just 500Mbps - totally adequate and only went from 300Mbps as there was no price difference!

Many thanks to all who contributed as I suspect that a number of forum members will find this sort of discussion helpful.
In my case, I have now, (more or less), decided to go the Ubiquiti Modular way at my next router change and I will then compare it with my present Asus RT-AX88U Pro when I buy the new Ubiquiti hardware.
I did put a few modular Ubiquiti devices into the buy basket yesterday but I decided to remove them and put the change onto the back burner until nearer to the end of 2026 when the sales arrive, (as there is no rush to change right now): Why pay around 30 percent more now when it is a longer term change that can wait to be completed at a discounted price later in this year and in between time the Asus RT-AX88U Pro works great and it suits most of my needs.

Don't bank on Ubiquiti at sale prices - rarely happens. Black Friday is when they have a clearance sale of older proiducts at good prices however, I have rarely seen switches and gateways discounted.
Now I have said that - switches and gateways will be cheaper in a flash sale! I wish.
It is also worth doing a comparison between the UK and EU webshops - on one recent purchase, it worked out noticably cheaper from teh EU rather than UK, but thelast one was cheaper on te UK site.
And if you are going for a UI switch make sure it is a PoE - I did not several years back and now have a bank of injectors!

The Black Friday savings did seem to be quite significant.
Buying from the EU may be good advice and if it was not for that Brexit Rubbish it would likely have been a good option but I am somewhat concerned about possible import duties/UK Taxes that could be applied.
Since we already have around four 1 Gbps 8 port unmanaged Netgear switches; I plan to keep those in situ as they just tend to feed devices that are limited to around 100Mbps by their own internal network cards, (eg. Smart TV's).
However; in order for us to be able to use a few VLAN's on the home network, we will need to buy around four Ubiquiti 2.5Gbps 4 Port Switches, (with at least one PoE Port on each of these Managed Switches), to be used to feed the unmanaged switches and other devices on VLAN Networks. - (I am not sure if 1Gbps Ports would a better option as they are certainly cheaper so 2.5 Gbps ports could be a waste of money but I do not know and would welcome views).
Managed Switches with more ports might be better but as the number of ports rises the cost rises.
There is no point wasting money, so I would consider using new Netgear 1 Gbps Managed switches instead as they would theoretically work but I will need to decide if the Ubiquiti Managed Switches would be needed or if Network manages switches would work just as well. - Also I may just keep the Asus RT-AX88U Pro as a WIFI Access Point instead of buying Ubiquiti WIFI Access Points but I am open minded towards that.

Buying from the EU store is fine - you pay UK VAT but no EU VAT is added. And no additional duties. The porice you see is what you pay. I've done it several times. The only downside is that it is 3-4 days (maybe longer) rather than 1-2. And a very minor rish if the X-rate changes.
Try it .... select some items and put in Leictenstein or Switzerland as the destination. VAT will be at around 8.1%, then Denmark 25% and finally UK at 20%

I am obviously new to Ubiquiti but as I understand it you can either have a cloud controller, (on one of the Ubiquiti devices on your network, eg. The Router), or you can use a remote cloud controller and if that is correct then a cloud controller, (inside the router as part of home network), is what I am thinking of as it seems simpler and it does not need the internet to access it.
Therefore, since the Ubiquiti UCG Fibre Gateway/Router includes an embedded UniFi Network controller. - I should not need a separate Cloud Key or controller as the UCG Fibre it has its own Cloud Controller built into it and this Cloud Controller can be used to control all of the other devices on the home network and the UCG Fibre Gateway can manages up to 50 UniFi devices and supports high-speed Connections.
The plan is;
Router = Ubiquiti UCG Fibre. - (Amazon price about £275.00).
WIFI = Ubiquiti U7 Pro. - (Amazon price about £160.00 each).
Managed Switches = 4 x Ubiquiti Flex Mini 2.5 5-Port Manage Network Switches. - (Amazon price about £60.00 each).
Total cost from Amazon about £675.00.
If we need another Ubiquiti U7 Pro for WIFI Range the total cost will be £830.00 - (which is why I am considering using my existing Asus Router for WIFI ).
As I understand it I could use my existing Asus RT-AX88U Pro as a WIFI Access Point but if I do that it may be hidden in the Unix cloud menu but since I already have it, the WIFI is already good and we do not yet need WIFI 7, (that may be the better option as we only have a six devices on WIFI, (but family visitors sometimes use the guest wifi).
I will probably wait until the sales or Black Friday.

Upon checking the main difference between the two wireless access points seems to be that the U7 Pro XG has a 10Gbps port and that version, (which as you say is the latest version), has a heat sync instead of a fan so it should last longer.
I will buy in stages starting with the other devices and for now for WIFI I will use the Asus RT-AX88U Pro as a WIFI Access Point but in the future I do plan to buy the U7 Pro XG when the WIFI needs updating.

Good advice as always; FWIW I did try to buy the UCG Fiber and four 2.5G 5-Port Managed Network Switches direct from Ubiquiti UK today but the Switches were not in stock in the Ubiquiti UK Store so I went to the Ubiquiti EU site and the price was better, (about £10.00 less than Broadband Buyer.com price), but while they were in the Ubiquiti EU basket the price went up by £5.00 but it was still just over £5.00 less than the Broadband buyer.com site so to avoid any Brexit Rubbish risk for the sake of just over a £5.00 saving I bought them from the Broadband buyer.com Website and as I understand it they are Ubiquiti Sellers and it will have the 2 year warrantee. (Total cost just over £452.00. - They may go down in the Black Friday Sale or they may not but once the decision was made there was no point hanging around and a modular system can be added to over time).
Warrantee is always good but I usually take the view that when a device fails within 7 years it was a bad buy as the build quality was not good enough. - I can't remember the last time that electronic goods of this type, (without fans or other moving parts), failed. - (Asus Routers have a 5 Year Warrantee so perhaps Ubiquiti should consider increasing their warrantee periods).
Regarding WIFI: For now; I will use my Asus RT-AX88U Pro as a WIFI Access Point and will buy new Ubiquiti Access Points in the future when our Phones and WIFI Devices would benefit from WIFI 7.

You should not worry about the "Brexit Rubbish" - I buy from there regularly and there are no problems.Just waiting to see which site has everything in stock beofre my next, camera, mount, doorbell order.
You can purchase the extra 3 years - a lot of customers will only want 2 as they change frequently so why waste money! Hence teh add-on that UI have - pay for what you need.
If you want to set up the BQM and have problems - let me know and I can copy the instructions across. Mine shows a nice 3mS consistently.
Plus download their UniFi app to your phone. I use UniFi, Protect, WiFiMan all the time, plus their UISP app as I have a managed RF link on my network. wh you finally get a U7 in te network - WiFiMan will let you run a speed test but it does it two ways. Either a basic phone to remote server OR Gateway to Remote server which tests the fibre connection, AND phone to Gateway which tests the WiFi which I feel it better as it show how teh two seperate parts work.
Voipify - I finally ditched the numbers we had with them - calls over 2 years almost none as everything is mobile. Never an issue with their service though.

The items arrived quickly so I set the UCG Fiber up yesterday, it has now been running for about 24 hours and seems very good.
It was mostly very easy to setup but at first I mistakenly created a Ubiquiti Account, (which I did not need since I plan to control the devices from the Home LAN), having a Ubiquiti Account was a pain and it seemed to prevent a local login and was a lot of faff. - So I removed the Ubiquiti Account and closed it, I did a factory reset and I set it up via the local management system which worked better for me and I even took up the option to keep the old Asus Lan IP Addresses which meant that everything on the LAN, including items with Static IP, linked up quickly.
Using the Ubiquiti UCG Fiber speed test, the results of the fibre connection are at least as good as the Asus reported with Ookla or better and it maybe more steady.
I am still finding my way around the internal menus and at present I prefer the Asus Menu, probably because I am used to them but it could be that the more indistinct, (wishy washy), colour scheme of the Ubiquiti makes it harder, (for an older person, like me), to see and to use the menu.
At present I only have one item that I am uncertain about in the present setup in that it responds to ICMP Echo requests/pings and I will probably turn that off. - Maybe it is for remote access from the Ubiquiti Servers that I do not plan to use. - (Does anyone know if/why this is needed)?
For now; I set the Asus RT-AX88U Pro Router up as a WIFI Access Point and that too is working well.
I have not yet set up the managed switches or any VLAN yet but I suspect that they will work out as planned.
Something that I did not like about the UCG Fiber when it first arrived is that there were small dirty marks on the white top of it out of the brand new sealed box and at first I thought that it could have been out and returned as although the box seal was intact I could easily have taken the UCG Fiber out of the manufacturers box and returned it without breaking the seals but upon googling this may be a common issue where dirty oil/soot marks are present upon the brand new case. (I mostly buffed them out with a clean cloth but it should be really be pristine upon arrival and I am hoping that the four managed switches do not have similar issues when I open them. - It creates uncertainty about quality control.
Are there benefits in using the Unifi App on the phone?
Does that give a better menu than just logging into the device?
I ask because it has a privacy policy and I have always been reluctant to allow information about my devices to be held elsewhere.
Regarding additional warrantee insurance: I have always adopted the policy of never taking insurance for something that you can bear there cost of; I have tended to change the Asus Routers every 3 years but they have a five year guarantee.
I have added redundancy to this Ubiquiti Equipment and I expect it to suit my needs for the next 10 years and I expect it to last as I expect all equipment of this type, (without fans or moving parts), to last 10 years at least and a two year manufacturers warrantee seems low.

The bad news ... the 2.5G switches were back in stock in the UI UK store at the end of last week!
I've never had dirty units arriving or quality issues with anything from UI.
You will get used to te user interface and menus.
Where are you seeeing ICMP Echo requests being on? On mine I have specific rules that allow it for certaain sites including TBB.
Yes, the extra warranty is effectively isurance. But if you buy a device with 5 years warranty, that cost has just been included in the price up front. Large users that update every 2-3 years only want 2 years and can save a lot the way UI do it and my guess its that UI do it their way to satisfy the marge users and are open in telling smaller users what te cost is. With your current router - if it cost £150, there was probably £30 of that to cover years 3-5 warranty.
Advantage of te App on your phoine/tablet is that you do have an easy way to control when you are not ot home. I use it in conjuction with Protect for my cameras and teh other UI apps.
I'm just waitingh for a new 24 port PoE switch (base model) with 10Gbps SFP+. The curren Gen2 version is fine with plenty of PoE ports but is stuck with a 1Gbps uplink - and mine is 6 years old and still going faault free.

The manufacturers retail price for my Asus Router and Asus Routers with a similar spec was about £300, (with a 5 year warrantee), so the UCG Fiber, (albeit without any WIFI), is a similar price;

My Asus RT AX88U Pro, (now operating as a WIFI Acces Point), has excellent WIFI Performance and Range and I suspect that I will need two U7 Pro XG at a cost of about £191 each, (£382 for two), to match the WIFI Range and since we only use about 5 or maybe 6 WIFI devices it may not be worth it. (Maybe with with a huge sales discount as the Ubiquiti WIFI Access Points seem to be significantly overpriced).
As you pointed out your Ubiquiti devices have already lasted over 6 years so that's good to know as with a modular setup I plan to keep the devices longer.
It is a white case and there were quite small black oil/soot marks on the top which, (from googling), seems to be a common issue. (The fact that the device can be removed from the box and returned to it without breaking the box seals creates uncertainty as to its provenance/newness but a lot of people have complained about small black marks on the new items so I concluded that it must be a quality control issue and not a refurbished or returned issue. (The marks were mitigated by rubbing with a clean cloth).
With a new router/gateway and an unfamiliar menu I usually visit Gibson Research Shield Up and that reports the ICMP Echo Fail, (which could be nothing and it could be there to enable remote access) ;

On the whole I am quite pleased and as you say we can get used to changes in menu but grey symbols and numbers on a white background are unclear for those of us who need stronger reading glasses. - (I have just reset the screen display to Dark and that may be a little better).

An update with my findings so far.
Regarding Ubiquiti WIFI: I wanted to use mostly Ubiquiti devices so I bought a U7 Pro XG and I installed that.
It was set the same way as the WIFI in my Asus RT AX88u Pro, previously being used as a WIFI Access Point, but the WIFI performance of the U7 Pro XG was vastly inferior as it was erratic in its operation and the WIFI range was also vastly inferior.
So the U7 Pro XG was obviously a mistake and it was soon sent back and I will stick with my Asus for WIFI.
Regarding the control over the network:
The UCG Fiber Gateway/Router for the most part has been OK but there are a few things that I do not like, one of which could be because I am not yet as familiar with the operating system or it could a glitch or even a feature that I do not like.
ie. I factory reset and removed the U7 Pro XG but it still remembers sone features about the WIFI that is not longer managed by the Unif OS. (Maybe it is some type of a ghost memory).
Also, Port 5 on one of the Flex Mini 2.5g managed switched reported an error, (ie. Anomaly 70), so I changed that managed switch with one of the other Flex Mini 2.5g managed switches keeping exactly the same ethernet cables/connections and the same USB wire/plug and since the Port 5 on the replacement managed switch did not report an error to me that clearly indicated a defective Managed Switch.
So I carried out a factory reset on the "defective switch", (defective ?), and I partly reinstalled it elsewhere without Port 5 being in use but Port 5 still reported Anomaly 70 but also the Unifi OS had still retained memory of the previous issue which was a concern so I carried out a factory reset and remove to the managed switch via the Unifi OS and the same error occured.
By Googling I have read that I may need to wait up 48 hours for the memory to clear the system. - I really do not like the uncertainty and these potential ghost memories but this theory sounds likes it's junk.
Personally, I do not like this uncertainty with the OS.
I am fairly sure that the managed switch that reports an error on Port 5 is defective but because of the reported potential ghost memory issues before I send it back I need to be sure, therefore, I plan to factory reset everything tomorrow, (including the UCG Fiber), which should prove that there is a defect on Port 5 of one of the Managed Switches.
I really do not like this potential ghost memory issue with the UCG Fiber. - Is this possible ?

the 88u is 4x4 MU-MIMO where the u7pro xg is only 2x2 ........ that would make some difference along with external vs internal aerials.. Not having BE perormance or 6ghz is not the issue here. its all about the aerials .........
Also celling mounted units are tyically not meant to be great wifi performers accross rooms,

Yes but other issues may be at play too

Here is what the installer did:
(1). Unplugged the Asus RT AX88U Pro was that was setup as a WIFI Access Point.
(2). Rested the U7 Pro XG, (upside down with the heat sync on top), in exactly the same place that the Asus had sat and using the same ethernet cable to connect the U7 Pro XG to a POE Ethernet port on the USG Fiber and set the WIFI, (via the USG Fiber), To use the same WIFI IDs etc as the Asus used.
(3). Let it settle. - Results = [censored] performance when compared to the WIFI from the Asus RT AX88U Pro
(4). We do not have any WIFI devices so we tried it with the WIFI band disabled . - No difference.
(5). After half a day and of trying it and faffing about. - Unplugged the U7 Pro XG and plugged in the Asus RT AX88u Pro, (set up as a WIFI Access Point), in the same position using the came connections. Result = Excellent WIFI speed and coverage throughout the whole house. (900 mbps in the same room and around 500 mbps in rooms further away). - All tests are subjective but I would say that was a fair and objective test.
The specs for the U7 Pro XG had indicated that the performance would be closer, (perhaps, it was a duff unit, as it did run hot with the heat sync on top), or perhaps, that is the reality.
The high end Asus Routers do tend to have exceptional performance and WIFI.
Perhaps the the questioner does not understand what good WIFI Performance is in the real world and he does not know as much about WIFI as he believes that he does.

Sure you could be right fella but this questioner isn't the one having issues with a new AP deployment or reverting back to a router as an AP because they can't figure it out.
I have mine just working perfectly throughout the house and garden, hope you fix your limitations and I am not talking about the hardware.

All of this is true.
The firmware was fully updated.
It could have been a defective unit (it did run very hot).
It is designed to be ceiling mounted but in order to test, (without using the fixing kit and adding additional wiring), it was used the same location as the Asus. - So arguably, location could be a factor but even in the same room the speeds varied wildly. (Not just on my Google Pixel Pro phone but also on my son's iPhone).

Just using the UCG Fiber alone at first it seemed really good as it had forgot the now none existent WIFI Setup but when the, (factory reset), Managed Switched were added and adopted, these were duplicate, (with some apparently being controlled by another controller).
Lots of back and forth removing and factory resetting the Managed Switches and we eventually ending up with the correct number of managed switches without duplications. - The memory seemed to be sticky.
What is more; the previously reported Anomaly 70 Error on Port 5 on one of the managed switches was no longer there and the switch appears to be working correctly.
I do not know what to say.
Overall, (when it works), I like the Ubiquiti System and with Asus WIFI all is good but I am uncertain about the its tendancy to remember deleted stuff long after the event and/or to report a false positive/defect on a device and to hold onto the message after devices have been moved and or changes were made.

This is odd to hear because I currently have a single U7 Pro XG which is not even ceiling mounted just balanced in the middle of my house and I have coverage absolutely everywhere - it does degrade at certain places in the house but overall it is rather impressive considering it's not even installed correctly (yet).
It may have required some adjustment of settings.
Did you get good speeds when you were next to it at least?

Yes and no.
We live in a very large single level detached bungalow and the gateway/router/WIFI Access Point is centrally located in the middle of the house.
The Asus provides WIFI to the Whole House, (except for our son's room), and it covers part of the front and rear gardens.
With the Asus RT AX88U Pro operating as a WIFI Access Point, in the same room I get about 890 mbps and a few rooms away I get between 600mbps and 700 mbps which is great and it is rock solid.
As I recall, with the U7 Pro XG in the same room it varied between around 800 mbps and 500 mbps and a few rooms away it went down to between 300 mbps and 50 mbps or less and varied a great deal so it was not in the same ball park.
Settings wise I set them as close as I could: We do not presently have any WIFI 7 devices so I turned WIFI 7 off to compare them like for like.
The U7 Pro XG did run Red Hot whereas the Asus is cool so maybe it was a defective device; I don't know but the difference in WIFI performance was so great that I quickly lost confidence in it.
Over the years, I have tried many different makes and types of routers and a few years ago I concluded that Asus were reliable routers that tended to have the best WIFI Performance when compared with most other makes so, in hindsight, perhaps I was expecting far too much from the U7 Pro XG but with regard to its WIFI Performance in practical terms it was a Lada up against a Ferrari.

You are spot on about the aerial and the design differences between the U7 Pro XG and the Asus RT AX88U Pro so in some ways a lesser performance could be expect but it was chalk and cheese.
It is true that the older type U7 did have a fan but the newer type U7 Pro XG does not have a fan and instead of the fan it has an improved heat sync, which in the case of my device it seemed very hot.
Perhaps, the heat could have caused the erratic performance; it certainly would not help it to last.

A few days ago we fitted the last of the Flex Mini 2.5g Managed Switches in the Living Room behind the TV and all is now working well.
However, while we were fitting the last managed switch and were unplugging and moving ports, (mainly to the Sky QBox), Anomaly 70 errors were reported and these remained even after all connections to the new switch were removed which could have indicated a wiring issue around the wall socket but we just refitted all connections to the ports and we left it for over 24 hours and then all of the errors cleared.
Previously the ghost memories of the removed WIFI needed a factory reset of the UCG Fiber to get rid of the ghost memories and for some inexplicable reason it seems that we are expected to wait a 24 to 48 hours to see if any reported Anomaly 70 errors clear and to stop ports from being restricted.
Having the system flagging up Anomaly 70 errors as they happen in real time and then clearing errors as you reset/test and/or make changes could be useful as a fault finding aid but not if you need to wait over 24 hours between taking action and seeing if your actions have cleared any issues.
It seems that I am not alone as online other Ubiquiti users have reported similar issues.

I like the Ubiquiti system when it works and at present it is working well but I certainly do not want to carry out any more factory resets and clean installs from scratch.

Since, up to now, no one has any more to add regarding the ghost memories or the Anomaly 70 issues, I thought that a recap from me and some reviews of my buying experience from some sellers of these products might help.
The ghost memory issues and the previously reported Anomaly 70 issues have not recurred so at present I am quite happy with the way that the Ubiquiti UCG Fiber and the 4 x Ubiquiti Flex Min 2.5g Managed Switches are working and they seem to work happily with the few unmanaged Netgear Switches that I have in the Home LAN.
The main reason for the change from a stand alone Asus RT AX88U Pro was to make it easier to use VLANs and with the Ubiquiti System VLANs are exceptionally easy to set up and to use.
I am concerned that the next software update could cause hassles and/or if I add or remove hardware false errors will be reported with port restrictions for a few days but we will see how that goes.
Regarding WIFI; right now I am using the Asus RT AX88U Pro as a WIFI Access Point for the Main WIFI and since the guest wifi while in access point mode is not isolated I have set up the ISP Supplied BT Smarthub 2 as a WIFI Access Point for guests and I have isolated it by setting up a Guest VLAN on the port that it uses. - (The Asus RT AX88U Pro being used as a WIFI access point is a waste so I may get a cheaper router to suit this purpose and either give the Asus RT AX88U Pro away to a family member or can sell it on eBay but I plan to avoid Ubiquiti WIFI).

With regard to the above: at first I bought the UCG Fiber and the 4 managed switches from them and my feeling towards them are somewhat mixed.
When I opened the UCG Fiber it had some small dirty oil/soot marks on the white top that that have I mostly buffed out with a clean cloth but I did not like that.
Also, when I opened one of the 2.5g managed switches that also had small marks, (like grease marks that would not buff out), on its white top which again I did not like.
Then when I then looked at their return T&C, what a rigmarole ! - So to avoid too much hassle I sent the other boxed managed switches back being almost certain that they would be in a similar state. (It could have been a bad batch to them from Ubiquiti the manufacturer or they could have been graded goods or returned items, I do not know), but I am glad that I sent three of them back to them and I probably should have sent the other two items back to them as well because noticed today that the manage switch that I have kept had a record of an old "Device SSH Authentication" login that had nothing to do with me in its settings. - I am still waiting for a full refund from them for the three that I sent back.

I just found linitx by googling when looking to replace the three managed switches so I bought from them the three managed switches we needed and a U7 Pro XG which as per a previous post we did not like the performance of and was sent back.
All of the devices that we received from Linitx all arrived in perfect condition and they quick checked and sent me a full refund for the returned item so from now on if I need more devices linitx will be in pole position.
Hopefully, this info helps others.
