Sync speed dropped on Dreytek Vigor 130 stats in post

My downstream has decreased from 78999 to 73999. I have had the modem plugged in since the 13/06/18 and the speed remained stable until a couple of days ago.

Any ideas what the issue might be from the stats?

Something is not right:

Attenuation of 9dB - that would suggest an attainable speed in the 90Mbps or above, however the stats show max attainable at 54Mbps. SNR of 1dB indicates sync speed is above attainable too.

First suggestion is a managed power down and reboot of the system - just once. Then see what the stats show

Turn off power to modem,
Wait 1 minute, disconnect cable from modem to socket.
Wait 10-15 minutes, power up modem.
Wait 1 minute to allow it fully reboot
Reconnect modem to socket,
Logon, check stats.


Also, get a copy of DSLstats and run that too.

How far, by road are you drom your cabinet? I would guess around 250 to 300 metres.

Does this 7% drop affect your day to day use of your broadband?

I rebooted modem as suggested. Same speed and stats as before. DSLstats keeps timing out with the following message.

To answer the other poster yes I have noticed some slow down when downloading large items like games.

I doubt that DSLStats will record anything off a Vigor 130. It only works with Broadcom routers/ modems.

A file that takes 5 minutes to download will now take 21 seconds more. Hardly a great loss of one's time.

Could a chipset conflict be the cause of the issues? As apparently my street cabinet uses Broadcom but the 130 uses Lantiq. As for the current speed issues not being a big issue. My concern is if it goes worse and becomes a major issue.

The reason I ask is I have just had the switch in my Asus RT88U die killing 4 of the 8 ports. So I am for the time being back to using the ISPs router but intend to replace it asap.

The Lantiq xdsl chipset in the Draytek 130 is rock solid (supports G.INP), and it may sync slightly lower for those connected to a Huawei cabinet but it shouldn't cause disconnections if no line issues. However there's no harm trying out a different router to see if it improves things. Just be careful not to swap your router too frequently as the DLM may incorrectly detect line instability and lower your line speed accordingly. When I used to have a FTTC service I left my modem plugged in for at least 30 mins before disconnecting it.

Thinking about it. Could what the stats show be caused by wifi interference? I ask becauuse after the Asus ports dying I am wondering if they could have poorly implemented the wifi and that is what caused the decrease in sync speed.

My plan is to stay on the ISPs router until hopefully, DLM resyncs me back at 79mb. As that is what I was synced previously while using the ISPs router.

In the meantime, I'll have to mull over my options.

Pretty certain Wi-Fi cannot affect xDSL sync rates.
