If you go back to your original router does your sync speed return?

Can you post line Attenuation/Sync/SNR stats from both routers?

keymaster,

This is not unusual for Draytek. All their models, at least since the 2600 series have the annoying ability to sync much lower than they should, compared to any other router we have ever used. This trend continues across nearly 300 managed dsl lines we handle for a client, all of which use Draytek.

We have put this down to the infineon chipset that Draytek use. Its a shame given where they pitch their products in the market.

Agreed.

Both of my lines (and remote ones) will sync at higher speeds with other makes of router.

But the DrayTeks give rock solid performance.

That's the first I've heard of... is it widely reported? I'm tempted to change my 2800 to something different if it will give me more speed! (currently connecting at 2.5!)

Thanks.

I think it may depend on the chipset at the exchange.

But, what you lose in raw speed, you gain with stability.

You said earlier you are connected at 2.5. I think you mean you have an IP Profile of 2500kbps.

You connection speed in those stats is 3392kbps, which does cause a 2500kbps profile. However you have a downstream (local) noise margin of 9dB rather than something a bit under 6dB that I would expect, and that 3dB costs 500-750kbps.

On 3424kbps connection you would have a 3000kbps IP profile. The step after that is 4000kbps connection giving 3500 profile.

It looks to me as if doing a reconnection with the router connected with just the filter and short ADSL cable to the test socket inside the master socket, then taking the stats immediately, would give us useful information. On your 43dB attenuation I would expect something in the upper upper half of a 5-7.5Mbps connection speed.

Thanks, so it's all about the wiring... which confirms my thoughts. The wiring was already in place when we moved in the house.

BT pole -> BT master socket (downstairs) -> extension cable to upstairs -> socket -> 1M line extension to my ADSL router.

I think I would get better speed if the BT master socket is moved to upstairs, so it has shorter line length from the pole. But I don't fancy paying BT £150 for that!

Unless there is another way round to this?

I would start by re-posting your line stats when you are connected directly to the TEST Socket.

My attenuation is 51db and I'm connected at 5.9Mb so your lower attenuation should give to quite an improvement over my connection speed. It looks as if your Target SNR has been raised from 6db to 9db which will lower your current sync.

My BT Master Socket is in my loft so I use a filtered face plate (from ADSLNation) which allows me to run a dedicated RJ11 to the router in my study - so moving the socket doesn't have to be the solution.

Thanks. Is there a limit length of extension cable before it start to degrade?

If it is BT-installed , or CW1308, or CAT5, not really.

If it is builder-installed burglar-alarm wire, that's a disaster.

If you open a socket and tell us what colour wires are connected to which numbered terminals we may be able to tell.
