BT Inifinity and Cabinet 15 Lofthouse gate

[link to this post]

Hello All.
I really hope someone is able to advise me on the below as i just don't get it..

I live on a housing development which was built 5 years ago and im connected to mylof (lofthouse gate exchange). Recently they have enabled BT infinity on my exchange and on 99% of the cabinets supplying mylof.

From my home i can see cab 15 which is 100 mtrs away from home (and the one i connect too), and also i can see cab 16 which is a bit further up the main road say 250 mtrs away from home.. So to my question is cab 16 can supply infinity at 32.1mbps and my cab doesn't at all.. AND to add insult to injury they would have to lay the fibre past my cabinet as well.

i hope someone has a answer to my frustrating question.

regards
iain smith

Sorry wasn't exactly clear. My question is why would BT not have installed infinity into cab 15 when they was doing the cable laying as i say they have had to pass the cabinet to get to cab 16 further up the road.? it makes no sense.?

there must be a real reason for it eg: cab not capable etc.?

I thought they had to upgrade the cabs to make them capable - bigger cabs with fans and vents.

100% sure cab 16 is enabled as my brother in law connects to it and he is able to get the 32.1mbps.
The cab15 is a new cab when the development was built.. also looking at the other cabs on the main road these still seem old.?

Oh... one interesting fact is that the local council haven't adopted the roads or paths yet. so maybe BT dont have the authority to do anything yet.?

where bt stoped from replacing the old cabinet??

the new FTTC cabinets are larger, need more electricity and has lot more fans.

If you could provide a picture of your cabinet someone should be able to tell you if its a new on that should support FTTC.

Dimensions would be usefull as well

Somewhat OT but how do you find which cabs are to be enabled please? Or more directly, does anyone here know which cabs are to be enabled on the Vauxhall exchange (WRVAUX) or can tell me where to check for myself? Thanks

What is the question?

Are you asking is it normal for one cab to supply service and another not? Yes. Or are you asking is it normal for one cab to supply service when another does not, when the cable would have passed the non-serviced cab to reach the other? It may happen.

There is no set formula for which cabs BT enable, and it could be they just have not got to your yet.

Hello.

I did say i would take pictures of the cab's in question.. I can confirm the cab 26 which does have fibre is much bigger with air vents etc.. Cab15 which im assigned too is small and of the normal size..

Anyway i have a reason now for the none fibre change, and its due to the council not having rights to the pavements and road as it still under the house developers until the roads are adopted early next year..

SO another question.. has the boat sailed on me getting fibre now as the cable guys have laid the fibre to the 'available' cabinets.? surely they wont come back and lay another fibre cable just for cabinet 15 will they.? OR can they piggy back from the fibre off the nearby cabinet.?

I don't think the council has anything to do with it, unless it is a conservation area which doesn't sound likely.

In general BT do not need to dig anything up to run cable - it goes through existing ducts. You seem to have inferred this anyway by saying the fibre for cab 16 must pass cab 15.

The only digging is likely to be to lay copper between the fibre cab and the existing one. Where is the fibre cab for cab 16 - between it and you or the other side? If it is near you then there is no technical reason so far as I know why cab 15 couldn't be connected to it as well. 288 connections permitting!

Agreed, but this appears to be a private road. From what you are saying the developer is planning on letting the council adopt the road, once the estate is finished?

I would have thought that BT would still undertake the work subject to the deleopers approval, they may have denied them access?

It appears you may have missed the initial sailing, you can only hope they've left some fibre in the road ready to connect you at a later date.

Hi Iain,
Out of interest who told you it was due to the road not yet being adopted?

I've moved onto the same estate (right at the opposite end) so also keen to know if FTTC will ever happen as we only get a 1mb connection here - it's like travelling back in time a decade frown

Not entirely sure if i'm on that cabinet - depends on if the entire estate is hanging off that box or if there's another one knocking around on the estate.

Hello sovietUK. Private message me your address?

Things have changed since this thread. As im now talking with Openreach direct as they cant tell me a valid reason why they did not install fibre (Turns out its nothing to do with planning permission).

I will keep you updated on developments.!

As an Anonymous poster I would remind you that you cannot use the private messaging system on this bbs.

If you are a registered user but forgot to login then you may log in and use it of course, but I would suggest that anyone thinks very carefully before giving their private address to someone they do not know.

There looks to be another cabinet at the end of the development on the mud track. Although I'm unsure if this is actually a BT cabinet. From looking round it seems the roll out has stopped at the railway bridge.

(i'm sovietuk)
The box at the other end of the estate looks like a bt box and has 'live' sprayed on it, tho it sounds like all the houses unfortunately hang off the box at the entrance of the estate :-/
The speeds seem to agree with that - Smitiai lives at the front of the estate and I believe gets around 2meg, I live at the opposite end and get a depressing 1meg frown

(for reference, BBC player just about works on 1 meg (bit jittery for 1st 30 secs then generally ok; for work, remote-desktop to my office is usable if a little sluggish (tho I kinda think that's more down to a lack of bandwidth at the office)

I live around half way down and get 2.5 on a good day and 2 on a bad one. Although I am using an adsl nation filter plate to achieve that.

Feel slightly cheesed off that the roll out has completely missed us out.

I have just moved onto the estate and have ordered by broadband with sky. I am told i will only get 0.5 meg at best. I live about 10 houses in from the entrance and cabinet 15. I have read all this thread and like you are just hoping we havent missed the boat.

I really need a fast connection for work and play. What providers are you all with on this estate ??

Does anyone know any further information that may assist me

Thank you in advance

Its a bit of a strange one this,
i lived in Robin Hood, near the halfway house, and got 13.5mbit via adsl2 with o2...
moved up the road closer to the rothwell exchange, and got 3mbit

Lofthouse was due to get fibre before me, so was gutted, but luckily im close the cab and get the full 40/10!
Surprised there are so many lofthouse/east ardsley users on here!

I'm of the opinion that we are more likely to see pigs fly that get any Infinity product on the estate.

It certainly looks like the roll out has ceased in the Lofthouse Gate catchment area. Once you are over the railway bridge I havent seen a single new style Cab in the surrounding area.

As always BT are "unable to help with any roll out queries"

Also notice this recent update on the BT site when i check for availability "BT Infinity is not currently due to be rolled out in your area within the next 6 months."

I guess that answers everyones questions. Although the word "area" is a bit of a kick in the teeth when its available up the road

Congratulations.

I live in a newly built building with no FTTC, my exchange went "live" two months early. The building across the street from me (also newly built a couple of years ago) already has 40/10 FTTC but I don't even know what cabinet I am connected to. Guess you're one of the lucky ones? smile
