Since upgrading to an FTTC service I have noticed a small problem with the forums which does not happen on main site and did not happen previously and so far it has not happened on any other sites/pages just the forum pages.
Currently running Firefox 3.6.13 on XP SP3 - the problem does not occur on IE.
When I access a new page on the forums the Icon in the Tab remains as the rotating dots normally seen when a page is loading. Everything appears to have loaded and if I click <Stop> the Icon changes to the tbb logo.
Am I alone? or is there a minor bug?
Edit to add:
It appears to be Google Analytics that is not loading - it sits "Waiting for Google Analytics ..."

Doesn't usually last for more than 15 minutes or so.

Only started since FTTC service installed - and does not stop! 2 days so far.

Install (if you haven't already) AdBlock+ and block Google Analytics - major PITA, IMO (mostly when I am using my 3g connection, admittedly)..
|
|
|
Already use Ghostery and it does not matter if it is turned On or Off - same problems.

This is a very long shot and probably won't work... PPPoE packets are a bit bigger than PPPoA, try reducing the MTU on the computer by about 10.

The Router is already set to 1492 and my PC was set the same, but have even gone down to 1458 with no luck.

Not sure what my router is set to (probably 1500, but on an Airport Extreme it's not accessible!).
The computer is set down to 1280, but that's to avoid problems with some sites when using IPv6 over a 6to4 tunnel. It was previously set to 1492.

Have been down to 1200 - no luck! And it is on TBB forums - no where else (so far).

No real ideas in that case... unless there's something odd about the routing.
For other reasons, I've often had the feeling that BT data paths for anything coming over FTTC are different to those for copper to the exchange. But I can't prove it

Currently running Firefox 3.6.13 on XP SP3 - the problem does not occur on IE. In which case I would be looking for something specific to FF, rather than the FTTC service.
Are you running any add-ons or extensions that may be the cause, such as No-Script?
|
|
|
Nothing has changed except ADSL2+ to FTTC and the 2700HGV changed to a 2701HGV.
No other web sites exhibit the problem and happens on two different PCs here. Only add-on running (on one PC is Ghostery, and even with that disabled it still happens.
Out of my field but wondering if there is a minor bug that has appeared or a routing issue somewhere in the network ...

I too have a gut feel that that is the case. I've looked at various traces and with no old reference to compare, there do seem to be differences.

Shirley the routing doesn't change depending upon which browser is used?
Analytics uses javascript, so I'm more inclined to think that it's something like FF's interpreter is doing something different to IE's.
What happens when you disable javascript in FF?
(Tools -> Options -> Content and restart FF)

Have you tried MTU of 1500? On router too? With associated RWIN (if not automated)?

Message to the mods:
Don't you hate it that you can't disable sigs? Ha Ha!

Not yet but am planning to have a good look here to see about the two problems TBB has brought up.

Have tried that already - when looking at the TBB speedtest port 80 issue. This morning however, I have noticed, the stall point has changed and it now says : Read forums.thinkbroadband.com and also the progress bar is only going 90% across.

Are you using Firefox? If so, the Firebug plugin may help here. It keeps a timeline of how the various components load, so if something is failing to complete, that will tell you.
