I think BT has pointed the finger at the local electricty supply companies not being able to keep up with all the cabinet power hook ups.
I had to get EDF in last year as my junction box started dripping tar out of it (as they used that as an insulator in the 1950s) and it took 8 weeks for them to come and sort it.
Even then they had to send an outsourced company to fix it as they were too busy to come and do it in the end, it made one hell of a mess which they refuse to clean up or pay for it to be cleaned.

Yep Ive been waiting for my cab to be ready from 31/08/10 and still no sign of it even being put there. BT told me the delay was down to planning but I suspect it is a power thing.
The date will no doubt change to something like 30/06/11
PS you will have a long wait if its 31 June 2011

Thing is, my cab is happy buzzing away, so it must have power going to it.

I'd guess that an exchange wont be available to take orders until a given number/percentage of cabinets are active and ready for service.
But then the cabinets are just part of it.

might not be your cabinet then

Yep my go live date for Reading central went from 31-dec to 31-mar and now BT's own infintity site states that my area isn't due to get FTTC at all!
Samknows states 1st March for FTTC. (Presume it's out of date?)
BT Wholesale states 31-Sep for FTTC!
I was thinking of going back to BT for FTTC. But this constant moving of the goalposts doesn't help.
Update:
Just checked, via BT's Infinity site, the Infinity Roll out map. (That big banner at the top of their page.) states that:
"Great News! These Exchanges are ready for BT Infinity:.....Reading Central.."
[censored]? BT it's time your left hand started knowing what your right hand was doing. What part of your site is giving the correct info??

How close are you to the exchange?

roughly 1.5 to 2 miles.

So you should be on a cabinet then. I was wondering if you were close enough to be connected direct to the exchange, which would have explained it.

If i remember correctly, when we moved in to our current house, we had to have BT come in to test the lines and their little gadget showed that we were approx 1700metres from the exchange.
Still would be nice to know which part of BT has the correct information. I wonder if they use a version of the "magic 8 ball" to provide answers?!

Most probably
(sorry couldn't resist)
I would say that their checker is the most up to date info and that the one that triggers their ordering system.

hi,
Like most people have said about when and where infinity will be ready its a nightmare, BT site says my exchange is ready, the cabs are in and humming away but can't get any sense from BT.
Now to top the lot yesterday I had an email from BT saying that I had gone over the 40GB on option and they said it would be best if I changed to Infinity Option 2!!!!! It took me 10mins in the end of me telling them I've not got Infinity or not even with BT BB, alas he would not believe me and in the end I asked to speak to someone higher up, who then got it sorted after a few um's & r's

Ah, Reading Central.
I know the cab I'm on (Kenavon Drive next to Homebase), because some yobs burnt it down and I didn't have phone service. The engineer came from the cab to my house, and I'm about 300m from it, which he confirmed.
The cab had its big Fibre brother installed in November, for an enablement date of December. Since then, it moved to March, the power company dug up the path and lay the power cable, and a "Cross Telecom" or something stopped by to hook up the fibre stuff - they had the cab open, all the equipment was inside and they were fiddling with it.
Yesterday or so, the date now moved to "not planned" on Infinity / September on the Wholesale site. I can't believe this is correct, seeing how my cab developed. Similarly, both the cab towards the hospital as well as the one in front of the King's Road car park have now been finished - paths dug up, power installed, barriers removed. I am hoping this is just a fluke while they do they work in the actual exchange, and we'll see it flip forward within this week...

Hello,
It seems like a heck of a lot of people have had their enablement dates pushed back in some sort of blanket delay exercise.
My exchange (Stony Stratford) is enabled for Infinity, and my new local vDSL cab is 100m from my house, all humming all dancing!
Originally had a ready date of 31st March, was put back to Sept 11 last week. Livid is a good way to express my feelings about it now!
At least, as it seems a lot of people are in the same boat, it could mean they've done this as a precaution and every body will be enabled soon.
Here's hoping.

Hi Greg
My sentiments exactly! I'm on the stony exchange. They fitted three cabs on Crownhill but took 4 weeks between each. Doesn't seem an efficient way to work but what do I know?!
Which area are you on? We are 6km from the exchange so it would be nice to see how far they have got to date.
Neil.

It's the same with everything it seems. SamKnows originally had a date for 21CN WBC for our exchange for 3rd quarter 2010, that date then went out the window and theres been nothng mentioned since from either SamKnows or BT wholesale.

Same here - I'm in Crownhill on the Stony exchange too, and the cabinet (in Lennon Drive) is up and running. What's more, the exchange is supposedly enabled already, so what's the holdup?

I doubt it if they have pushed the date out that is likely to be the miniumum date it could go out further

I think that is overly pessimistic.
Delay yes. But they wouldn't leave an FTTC cab standing idle for 12 months.
Since my post yesterday, a lot of barriers and signs have appeared in a pile next to the cab. I think it's time for the electricity utility to cable it. I believe they have already finished two others on Crownhill and ours was the last to be installed. It is next to the main entrance to Hendrix drive off the H4.
I think that once all the cabs on the estate have been finished they will go live.
Hopefully anyway! Either way, I can't imagine them installing cabs etc. and then not trying to get any return on that investment as soon as possible?

I am in Crownhill too, 100m from the cab on the junction with Hendrix Drive and Monro Avenue.
The hold up must be that parts of the fibre route need digging up to lay. Like the work going on along the H4 at Linford Wood. Maybe delays to this work has delayed our implementation?
These new cabs are all that's preventing me from thinking for sure that BT aren't going to bother laying the fibre from Stony to Crownhill (and the other areas) - despite there being a significant business interest connected to the Stony exchange.
So Frustrated!

I m in Crownhill 250m from the cab on Hendrix Drive by the H4 entrance.
I've seen them drawing in the fibre along the A5 up to the crematorium roundabout.
That was 2 weeks ago. I think (but I'm not sure) that the fibre to the cab is already in. I think that went in many weeks before the cab did. It looked like they then installed the tie cables and the fibre link from the manhole to the new cab at the same time.
That's why it's all backfilled now. I assume the power would be in a separate trench and that doesn't appear to have been installed yet. I assume that is the hold up.
I don't think they will connect the tie cables until the power is ready at the cab, but perhaps someone more technical would know that?
When they do you will probably see someone sat outside the existing cab all day!
Anyway. Nearly there hopefully!
