Incidently icmp is usually lower priority but not UDP.
The Firebrick device sends out an ICMP echo request (a 'ping') packet ...

still poor showing.

eg. did your adsl show that level of packet loss.

Just had my second engineer round now.

He plugged the JDSU unit straight into the main socket and the readings were normal. He then powered up his own Openreach modem and his colleagues noticed that the noise levels had increased. The exact same test was done where the cable come directly into the property and the modem was connected through an extension which was plugged into a different socket. Again when the modem was powered up the person at the Openreach call centre saw the noise on the line straight away.

Openreach now want a specialist engineer and R.E.I.N. tester to come to the property. Just completely bewildered as to where the interference is coming from! Connection is very choppy at the minute, the connection is cutting out every 10-15 mins.

your loss is lower than the OP's but still high, in your case my guess it would seem you got noise between you and the cabinet, you using the same router?

We've already established that the OP has a fault, so the comparison is meaningless.

ADSL2+ modem/router was a 3Com, now it's the OR modem and an Airport Extreme router.

It would be nice to have zero packet loss, but some of us have to live in the real world and <0.1% doesn't matter.

You think it's high, I don't.

Wish I could get back to that rate of packet loss.

Just seen my updated monitor(below) looks like a bloodbath!

That's a disaster area frown

I'm surprised the engineer didn't try switching you to a different MSAN in the cabinet while he was there, it would have been worth a try!

I asked if they could do that and then if I could test the service for the next week before they get more people in. They want to check the interference first and then they will try switching the MSAN.

2 hours ago I was getting 1Meg Down and 1.5 Meg up. Now I am getting 25Meg Down and 8 Meg up ..it's all very strange!

I can see from the BQM (which will be "live" until midnight) that the packet loss disappeared abruptly at about 9:15-ish, with no jump in latency like the last time... very odd confused

I know I have just seen that as well, it's very odd. I have had the same electrical equipment on for the last 4 hours just to test out BT's theory. I have a feeling they will eventually find an issue at the cab rather than at my property.
