BT Misleading FTTC Rollout Information

BT are presenting the information on FTTC rollout in a very misleading and exagerated way. They are referring to Exchanges enabled for FTTC and quoting availability based on that but generally they are only enabling about 50% of the Cabinets connected to these exchanges so typicaly actually availability is about 50% of what BT are claiming

What you will find is that they are enabeling CAB's that will give them access to the largest user base thus giving a quicker return on investment. Standard business practise. VM already do the same with their network.

No doubt there is an increasing number of cabinets being delayed due to issues like street works notices (which can run on for months) and planning permissions/local objections.
No doubt Openreach will move on elsewhere to continue the rollout then come back later to complete those that were delayed.
Dont think its been a secret for a long time that not all cabinets in any given exchange would be upgraded.

If they did the public would be wondering what a PCP is, and then they'd have to publish map locations of cabs, explain what they are and go into some detail, wiring lengths e.t.c Far easier to do it this way.

The further you go into the network, the more technical it gets. The UG network is not something 99% of the UK really pass a thought about.

According to quotes on ISP Review...

A number of the statistics quoted are at best misleading and in some cases totally inaccurate. Openreach averages 85% coverage of homes and businesses within an enabled exchange area.

If its 85% then not exactly "hold the front page"!

VM didnt leave out pockets of areas, their gaps are from when they were refused access to dig up pavements years ago and new houses built after they rolled out.
