BT Engineer Just gone !....... but i have no router :( ...

How can i test my FTC connection until my router arrives?
I thought I could just plug the modem in to my laptop and create a new PPPoE connection?
This seems to connect OK but I cant browse anything.
Any advise please?

emergency over!
i just received an email from IDnet which had my login details
Connected with those and it works a treat
now.. for some speed tests
