I am looking to move to BT Infinity a short walk down the street we have three green cabinets the longest distance one is 121 metres away what kind of speeds would I be likely to be quoted at this distance?
Thank you to anyone who can answer.

They may be BT, Virgin media, or non-broadband at all. Possibly a BT PCP + an FTTC one (that is larger that the other two), and a Virgin Media one.
The Virgin media is likely to have a printed 6-7 digit number on it. The BT PCP probably 2-digits perhaps scrawled on.
Have you put your number into the BT Infinity tester on this page? What does it say?

It says 40.0Mbs down and 13.0Mbs up.
Surely that can't be correct as nobody ever gets the full advertised speed.

Sync speed isn't the same as throughput anyway. In practice VDSL2 can sync quite a lot faster and is being "limited" to 40Mbit/s possibly in part to beat the "nobody gets the advertised speed" mantra.

I don't know about upload but I can certainly download at 40Mb/sec.

That does sound as though one of those cabinets is an FTTP one.
Openreach FTTC, (BT Broadband Infinity is just one ISP's offering) handles connection speeds slightly different from what you are used to.
You can expect an IP Profiles of 38717kbps down, 10000kbps up. (Upload sync will show as 10000kbps on the engineer's test as well). Maximum download speed in reality depends on your ISP just like it does on ADSLx, but plenty of people get 36Mbps or more.
I'm about 600 metres from my cabinet and connect at 39992/10000kbps. Actual speeds vary around 35Mbps/8Mbps.

Since when did 37.09 = 40? .
But the 37Mbps is what he wants to know.

Overheads seem to eb the main factor.
I've 448k upload sync and 376 speeds. About 84%. I guess your 10000 to 8 Meg is similar.

Thanks guys at least it looks as though it will be pretty good compared to my current 2.75Mbs down and 1.50Mbs up on ADSL2+

Moved to Infinity today, about 200m from the Cab, engineers equipment showed connection at 40Mb down and 9.99Mb up, so far seem to be consistently getting 37Mb down and 8Mb up. Having previously been on 1.5Mb down, I'm quite happy with 37Mb!

cab should look something like this: http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/2672/050ea.jpg
if your line is as short as you think it might be then you could be close to the top end speeds.

I've been on Infinity since February 8th 2011 when I had a 2nd line installed as I wanted to keep my Sky Unlimited connection.
Since my new line and Infinity were installed I've had constant line speed profiles of 38717 downstream and 10000 upstream. Speeds seem constant 24/7 for browsing, normal downloads & streaming from Sky Player, i-player, youtube & such like.
Speedtests have also been pretty consistant with downstream speeds normally 37mbit + & upstream speeds normally 8mbit +.
I've not really used P2P other than off-peak when it's been rock solid full speed ahead.

No one likes being lied to that is why we don't like it when speed is not what we are quoted as for winging about speed you could take our own advice. just saying.

I think you mean "your", not "our"?
