Download test files

[link to this post]

Can anybody recommend a good site to download some test files. Would like to actually see how fast it will go in reality. I think I have achieved around 1.5MBps so far on FTTC.

.

Knowing how it works is completely different to understanding how it works.

Apple iOS or combined OSX updates (From Apple of course) always max out my connection.

The combined 10.7.7 update is just over 1GB in size, plenty for a good test.

Linux distros from www.heanet.ie always reliably max out my connection, or anything else from that domain for that matter.

I didn't doubt them for a second. tongue

Seriously though. I have tried the TBB downloads. I got a constant speed of approximately 4.5MBps on the 512 file.

So no complaining about raw speed then! But as a gamer it's the latency I want to be spot on. If it can do 4.5MBps then a little bit of browsing shouldn't be upping the latency.
Going to have to google a bit again and try to find some hard facts. May even approach Aquiss for advice.

Martin seems very cautious about the TBB monitor. Perhaps rightly so as it is in Beta.
But if some one can explain the throughput vs latency thing better then I can eliminate other things from my enquiries! wink

I still think my 0ms ping tests hold part of the key to it, whether that be the modem, router or some other setting.

Have you established your Enta node, and are watching what that shows?

Yep. The Milton Keynes node. It can peak in the red between 5 and 6pm, but always falls right back after that. Running at 52% at the minute which is about average really.

However, Martin thinks that BT's in Milton Keynes was among the first to be upgraded to 21CN and is one of the busiest in the country. Capacity issues there could explain it maybe.

Some 5M ones would be good, which is the smallest on TBB's download page.

Anyone know anywhere that offers test files for FTP and SCP? I'd like to try some non-HTTP port/protocols.
