hey all,
FTTC will become available on my exchange at the end of June 2011. I'm currently unhappy with the service from Orange Broadband and currently paying something like £12 pcm for it.
I'm planning on running a few servers in the house to host personal projects of mine but looking for a decent host without breaking the bank with either unlimited or a decently large amount of bandwidth to cope with people downloading/uploading, game servers and p2p.
Static IPs is a must, 8 is ok.
Ive had a look at the spreadsheet - https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AquiMM6uTUU...
I'm currently with Orange BB (2mb line) because we're so far from the exchange but the green phone cabinet is about 10m away from the house where we are...I assume this is the cabinet where the FTTC connection will come from or will that be replaced with a larger cabinet when the time comes?
What do you lot recommend?
Thanks

Would appear Web Tapestry are closest to your "musts" but I've never seen an actual user on these forums so don't know if they're good or carp...

Thanks for the reply and for the FTTC ISP Spreadsheet too!
I found one user, I've sent them a PM so will wait for their reply - http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/fibre/f/4004174-web...
There are also two entries in your ISP Review for the ISP.

Theres also ADSL24 Gareth but check their feedback the last two years, they let me down big time.
Webtapestry do hosting and is the main run of the established business, think i seen 1999 some where. UK based call centre in Manchester with several knowledgeable staff, that is when you finally get past the switchboard being weekday mornings only. Aftersales needs to vastly improve.

I would just like to balance the above post by saying that ADSL 24 have helped me more than I could have imagined during a recent BTO cock-up.

Well its June now, and if you have not seen the NEW green Large Cabinets yet, you are going to have quite a wait.
Wait for the Cabinet install.
Wait for oPen reach to put the gubbins inside
Wait for the Power to be connected.
Wait for testing of it
Wait for it to be handed back to BT, then it should go into service , and I have probably left of some waits as well

That doesn't look like it - something similar to the following, usually sited quite close to a smaller green BT cabinet

Thanks gents, I'll have a look in the next few days!

That looks more like a Gas installation. I'm not sure what goes underneath - some kind of valve, governor or manifold i guess.

bt internet are now unlimited for only 25.60 per month, if you use p2p you may get traffic shaped between 6pm and 12pm, but your game servers will not unless your p2p at the same time.

Just while I remember Web Tapestry £24.99 +VAT package has a 100Gb peak time usage per month FUP.
According to Ian Harris, "...a 'truly' unlimite package isn't really feasable for any ISP. In order to do that it could cost something like £2000 a month (that is what the ISP would have to pay BT)."

I am paying £24 Gareth inc vat but thats limited to 2meg upload, 40GB day and supposed unlimited off peak.
So do all your downloading off peak.
I am also getting a very good service and follow up emails checking things are ok.

See my post regarding ripoff installation fees.
Web Tapestry is the reseller I was thinking about goin for until I was told about the £50 installation fee later to become £80 on 30th this month.
