Cabinet Not Ready

[link to this post]

Ordered BT Infinity on Friday and was shecduled for an engineer to visit on the 20th to install my new kit.

However today the order status changed to "an engineer does not need to vist your premisses" etc.

So i phone BT and was told open reach had rejected my order as the cabinet is not ready frown

The line checker said it was and i could expect 29.5 meg
I am on the Milton Keynes Exchange and would love to finally have a line speed greater than a measley 1meg

Any ideas how i can find out when my cabinet is going to be ready?

A disapointed Simon

If you put your phone number in here it should give you the date.

Hi, this is the results i get, and it suggests I'm good to go...

For Telephone Number 01908******
on Exchange MILTON KEYNES

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 1.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 2.5Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 2Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 3.5Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 29.5Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.4Mbps.
The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.
Thank you for your interest.

Sometimes cabinets get listed as ready for service only to find that there are problems come the 1st live installs, so any orders immediately following get delayed.

SMBT MILTON KEYNES MK7 8EP {SMBT}{p63} 0 100 24.61 5a Yes FTTC

{SMBT}{p63} = the pvp you are connected to - number 63 aka the green cabinet with number 63 written on it.

0 = you are not directly connected to exchange (good in this case)

100 = 100% of the lines in this postcode go to this cabinet

24.61 = uplift ratio based on 40mb ie your adsl line speed currently is probably 40 / 24.61 = about 1.6 mb

5a = phase 5a of the rollout project aka now

Yes = on rollout schedule

FTTC = technology deployed.

Gary

Hi,

Just spoke to BT, they went away and did a few checks and have asid that it apears ready on some systems but the actual activation date for the cabinet is 15th July.

So they will call me back on the 16th and place an order for me then smile

Fingers Crossed!

Thanks for all your help!

Garypower....

You seem to be in the know?

I am having terrible trouble in my area with BT delaying FTTC activation ( rolling it on 3 months, every 3 months for the last year now) yet everyone around our estate apart from this one area, can have it (and have new FTTC cabinets next to the original, just our one does not). I am beginning to wonder if we are connected in a strange way to the Botley Exchange as it makes no sense.

Any chance for my postcode (SO30 2NG), you could give me the same stats please? Information in there may provide the answer and frankly my head hurts banging against the BT brickwall.

Really appreciate any help. frown

I think you're right about the exchange:

STBOTLY,BOTLEY,SO302NG,{STBOTLY}{p44},0,100,20.73,5a,Yes,FTTC

What does https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html report?

Many thanks for the speedy response, not sure that cabinet number matches the one I thought we were on which woudl explain a lot.

BTW reports September 2011 for both Postcode and Tel No. This has moved every 3 months since last Oct about 2 weeks before the date is reached (i.e last week it was June 2011, now sept 2011).

Out of interest, what cabinet number is postcode SO30 2RN? I used to live there and it is across the road and is FTTC enabled?

Cheers

Download and extract the following CSV:

http://localhostr.com/file/3TKBetv/PCP%20to%20Postco...

Open it in Notepad and search for the postcode.

I live in South Bradville and for quite a few months the BT checker has shown FTTC is ready, and I know it's not as there is no cabinet installed yet. Mind you, another checker reckons July, and another September.
Go look for your nearest line cabinet and see if there is a new one next to it. If so, you may get it sometime...
